Bexy - have you tried the NutriAdrenal products? Some people find them helpful. I'm currently trying them. They've had *some* effect, but not as much as I'd hoped. Funnily enough, I'm just doing the Genova test today so it'll be interesting to see what the results come back as.
There's also a book called something like "Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome" - I think it's by a Dr Wilson? I believe he gives advice about diet, supplements, etc. That will be my next step if my results come back as feared.
Good luck. I'm sure there *is* something we can do about it - well, I hope so anyway.
I was thinking about the nutri adrenals. Is that usually the next step? I have the stop the thyroid madness book and of HC is on the list but I will have to get a prescription for that (I think I do. I'm in Ireland so might be different here) Good luck with the test!
I'm not sure if NutriAdrenal is usually the next step as I'm quite new to this myself. But it is something you can buy relatively easily here in the UK compared with other things (such as hydrocortisone - is that what you mean by HC?). I do believe I saw somewhere where you can buy DHEA too - but I'm not sure about that. Like you, I guess I'll be in the position of researching these things and trying to find out. Let me know how you go on and what you find!
Same here! HC yeh Hydro cortisone. If you look on Genova there is an interpretive guide to adrenal stress. With my results I should be on pregnenolone, DHEA, vit c and vit b. I'll look up the adrenal support stuff see what they have to offer!
i think it must have. I had full bloods done recently and everything was ok. I have used them for a few years so nothing dramatic now. although when i began on nutri thyroid support i noticed a vast difference within a week or two. I also take a timed release vitamin c, magnesium and zinc as well.
Your cortisol levels don't look that bad to me (my profile is horizontal all day!). Your second sample is slightly low, but not hugely so. I'd concentrate first on your DHEA levels - you can buy DHEA as a supplement online - just Google it. When my DHEA was low I took 20mg/day. It took 2 months or so to feel the full effect but it made a huge difference to my energy levels. After 2-3 months on DHEA perhaps get re-tested. You might need to be on it for some time longer.
I've done a lot of research because I couldn't get any help from the NHS. I've learnt a lot from Thyroid UK, but the key books for me have been "Adrenal fatigue - the 21st Century Stress Syndrome" by Dr James Wilson (a really good book with lots of practical advice on supplements, nutrition, lifestyle etc) and "How to Keep your thyroid healthy" by Dr Barry Durrant Peatfield. (This covers thyroid mostly, but also a bit on adrenals). Dr P also has clinics in Crawley, Sussex, with outreach clinics in other towns around the country. There's also another good thyroid book with some adrenal advice in it called "Stop the Thyroid Madness"
As for websites, there's lots out there - just Google "adrenal fatigue" or whatever the issue is.
My adrenals have improved hugely (from a very low start) through a combination of supplements - DHEA, Wilson's Adrenal Rebuilder, Vit B5 (pantothenic acid), Vit C especially, also dietary changes - increased protein, low sugar (for blood sugar stability), plenty of sleep and relaxation techniques. But it doesn't happen overnight - so be patient!
