High levels of Anti-Tpo

Hi, could someone please tell me what normal anti-thyroglubin levels but elevated Anti-Tpo levels mean?

I'm hypothyroid taking levothyroxine & T3 combo. My TSH, Free T4 & Free T3 are within range so what does the high Anti-Tpo levels indicate?

Anti- Thyroglobulin 1.7 IU/ml (<4.1)

Anti-Tpo 66.2 IU/ml (<9.1)

Thanks

The TPO anti-bodies are raised - but only slightly. Ranges do vary from lab to lab. What is happening with your TSH FT4 FT3 ? It may be sensible to wait and see as sometimes TPO anti-bodies can be raised for reasons other than Hashimotos - or auto-immune Thyroiditis....

How are you feeling ?

On the other hand you may wish to look at the root causes of anti-bodies and nip things in the bud - and before other AI conditions appear.

I have Hashi's and Crohns....

Hi Marz, the reference levels are less than 9.1...is 66.2 still only slightly raised? I've had hypothyroisism for about 15 years but haven't been told if it's Hashimoto's. I'm just wondering if it's anything to worry about as I am self medicating (T3).

Just as a guide my anti-TPO is over 900 and I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2005 - and they were that at the beginning. Have now gone seriously gluten free for the last year or so in an attempt to reduce them....

If it was me I would connect with all the websites about Hashimotos and read as much as possible. Lots of good people have lifestyle advice that can reduce anti-bodies and in your case prevent it becoming more of a problem.

Typing Hashimotos into the Search HealthUnlocked on the green bar at the top of the page - then press Enter on the keyboard - will throw up loads of relevant posts - hopefully :-)

Please do not worry ....

Rebecks, some people only have raised thyroid peroxidase (TPOab) antibodies, some have only thyroglobulin (TgAb) antibodies and others have both. Elevated TPOab and/or TgAb usually mean autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). It's not uncommon to have antibodies but TSH, FT4 and FT3 in 'normal' range even when not taking thyroid hormone replacement.

Gluten-free diet and being optimally medicated can reduce antibodies and slow down the progression of Hashimoto's.

If you post your recent thyroid blood results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and say what doses you are taking members will advise whether you are optimally medicated.

Thanks Clutter. I noticed the raised levels when looking over the blood tests I had 6 weeks ago (I didn't notice it before!) I'm having more blood tests tomorrow so I'll post my new results within the next few days : )

Dear Clutter & Marz, I've posted my results that I got back today on another post that's titled 'Confused with T4/T3 dosage. How do I interpret these results? How do I continue?' Your input is of great value to me & would appreciate your advice as to how to continue cos I'm pretty much at my wits end. Thanks guys x
