Scalloped tongue. Could anyone please give me information with regard to this? I am Hypo and taking 50mcgs T4 and 30mcgs of T3. I have read that this can mean sleep apnea, spleen, grinding teeth, excess fluid, water retention, or quite simply low thyroid. I do not feel better with Meds, and the scalloped tongue is not getting better. Would be grateful for any feedback. Many thanks. Marmaris.

Scalloped tongue
Mine improved massively when I started treating my low iron. I think for some people it can be a sign of being low in B vitamins although I'm not sure which ones.
A scalloped tongue is one of the clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism which, before the blood tests for thyroid gland were introduced, and doctors knew and took notice of.
,,,,when Hypo increased fluid levels are common. This also affects the tongue - then whilst asleep it presses against the teeth to form the indentations. I also agree with B12/iron deficiencies....
I do take Bvits which ones would you suggest Marz and which iron? I have this.
Always best to take a good quality one....cheap ones have lots of fillers. Also better to take your B12 alone. Have you had your B12 tested along with Ferritin - Folate - Iron - VitD ? Once taking B12 the results will be skewed. Result needs to be near the TOP of the range....
I don't take iron so don't know much about what is best. Lots of people discuss on the forum so type it into the Search Box on the Green Bar above and see what crops up
My B12 was not optional as all the others folic acid, ferritin, and Vit D low. Doctor gave me Vit D 6 months ago and I am improving. Asked for B12 but said my results were fine, and that I eat meat, not vegan etc. I have recently changed from T4100mcgs to 50mcgs and upped T3 from 20mcgs to 30mcgs. That is when I have noticed the tongue has got worse, and I feel very tired, especially in the afternoon.
I have alsot started on hrt patches of estrogen and progesterone, I have read that when taking this you should increase dosage of meds, is this true?
Always good to ask for your results so you can post them here. If the B12 range is 180-800 and your result was 185 - the GP will say - fine ! NOT ! Need to be near the top. Things begin to go wrong below 500. Many of us struggle with absorption too.
Am afraid I do not know anything about HRT patches - did not go down that route....am sure someone will answer. Probably best to create a new post....

I eat meat and liver but my terminal ileum was removed some 40 years ago - so miniscule amount of B12 absorbed - so now on injections weekly....
Do ask for your results with ranges and post - I will look out for them....and hopefully be able to help in some small way...
I did upload a picture but I don't know where that has gone.
