I have just recently had a blood test for Vitamin D deficiency and B12 the results came back as Vit D 39 they have suggested I take an over the counter supplement of calcium & vitamin D - Does anyone have any idea which one is best ?
My B12 was 409 which they said was normal is this correct? I am a 53 yr old female with Hashimotos, Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and gluten sensitivity. Many thanks in advance.

You said that was your VitD level but it is your calcium that should be checked before taking any calcium supplements. Taking VitD will increase your calcium level so important to know that you need it increased before supplements. If you don't need the calcium then a straight D3 supplement is adequate.
There is a very good factsheet here about vitamin D:
Great reading I wonder why doctors do not put you on the necessary Magnesium that is obviously required whilst taking Vit D also Zinc Vit K2 and Boron I shall now be seeking these out, as apparently it makes the Vit D receptors work better. Does anyone have anything that they can add to this. Many thanks.
39 is really low (if that is nmol/L). You'll need to buy a high dose D3 supplement online to get a high enough dose to get that up into the 100s. You need K2, not calcium, to go with it, unless you have had a blood test that show you are low in calcium.
Hypothyroid people have trouble absorbing nutrients and many of us are deficient in both B12 and D. And everything is associated with pain in my opinion. I've tried five different types of D3 without much success (plus also plenty of sun). A prescription for 15,000 i.u. finally raised my level but not as high as yours is right now. I think it is trial and error to find what will work for you.
I've been taking NOW (about £7), combined D3 and K2 (1000mg every other day, as doc suggested) and it seems to work. Current level is: 98nmol/L (>50 vitamin D sufficiency).
My GP said my Vit d was low at 69.0, so your result is lower than mine. I've been taking these vit d3 from this site, since March, yourhealthbasket.co.uk/inde...
I'm about to get my levels checked, but have been free from aches and pains and horrendous mood swings since TT along them. I found a lot of info here grassrootshealth.net
The symptoms of b12 deficiency can be very similar to those of vit d deficiency and hypothyroid symptoms in my experience. With the b12 levels you have posted its possible that you are suffering from b12 deficiency but your GP may not treat because you are above the recommended level to prevent pernicious anaemia!
