Well thank you all for replying to my previous post. I had a phone consultation today with my Endo who agreed that it was too low and he will be writing to my GP to ask for injections of B12 to begin. I'm very pleased with the outcome. He didnt feel it necessary to do any further blood testing. He said that sometimes the results can be a bit skewed but it is clear that from my previous tests over the last year that the levels are consistently dropping........... 460 down to 440 down to 315.
He said that my constant tingling tongue was consistent with low B12 and said that there would be no harm in trying the supplementary injections.
Good news. Good that you will get injections you need and that you have a supportive endo. Hope your symptoms resolve quickly.
And that is the way it should be done, symptoms over blood tests. Nice to hear of an Endo with a bit of sense. You're going to need good levels of folate and iron/ferritin otherwise you won't get the best from the jabs. Have you had them tested?
That's great news, wish I had an endo, like yours. When I said to the one I saw that all nutrients needed to be in top part of the range for thyroid meds. to work properly he said I don't agree with that and discharged me.
He has spoke to my G.P. though to refer me for a opinion so I suppose that's something.
I hope you get somewhere with your referral Browny. I do feel lucky that I don't have that battle on my hands. I shall cross my fingers for you. Once again my friends thank you all for your support. x
Brilliant news joesmum, I'm really pleased for you. Hope you start to feel better soon. My B12 is 277 so I'm wondering what's in store for me. ( I've received an appointment to see the Haematologist soon.)
Wow joesmum you lucky devil lol. My B12 was 189 where the range started at 180 and my GP said that was ok. I also have a constant sore and burning tongie.....now I know why.
Thanks sazzyb - thats interesting stuff. I just got my private test results back and after supplementing B12 I'm now at 1103. Would like to know my active B12 level as I dont feel any better
How long have you been supplementing? My endo said that when I start the injections I won't get an immediate response or relief of symptoms. He said it can take a few months before the cells catchup because they need time to renew as nice healthy ones. Just a thought. X
Hi joesmum - I supplemented for four months - then stopped for 3 weeks for my blood test. However it wasnt a live B12 test so not really accurate. It did put my B12 level up in that time though
I would have hoped that you would feel some improvement in that length of time. I'm just hoping that I feel some benefit from these injections. My tingling tongue is driving me demented! I do hope that you start to feel better soon. Xxxx
I was a bit silly - when I saw how high my B12 had gone I stopped suppementing. Then my burning tongue, muscle cramps etc got worse again so back on them now regardless. Still need to know active B12 though........
