B12 level and effect on thyroid.

My B12 measurement came back at 148ng/l which the endo notes is low. She's told GP to measure intrinsic factor antibodies as regards pernicious anaemia. Can someone tell me what this means in actuality -- ie, what it means to show a very low B12 measurement and what the physical effects might be? Thanks.

Just watched this. Well, a lot of food for thought.

Pernicious Anaemia is when you cannot absorb sufficient B12 and suffer the consequences - which in the extreme can be fatal (hence the name).

I suggest that you visit this site for lots of information:

Whatever else, do not allow yourself to remain anything like as low as you are. One of the serious effects is nerve damage which is cumulative and irreversible.

In her letter to my GP, the endo was clear I need to be tested for intrinsic factor antibodies and that I would likely need B12 injections. So, another set of bloods very soon and a visit to GP. I simply don't understand why it takes a visit to an endo to get this type of thing sorted out.

Nor do I.

The medics seem to have completely forgotten that vitamins are called that because they are VITAL!
