A NATURAL alternative to NAX (Nutri Adrenal Extra) and NT (Nutri Thyroid)...??

I'm currently taking 2 x NAX per day and none of the NT (they made me ill!) and am looking at supplementing with non Bovine based (and/or hormones based) supps.....

Though NT says its Hormone free its commonly thought they they probably aren't. NAX has Adrenal and Pituitary, Bovine sourced.

I take Selenium (helps a great deal!) and I'll go with some super B vits combi's and have heard that Liquorice is good?? Anything else people have tried??

SI x

Hi adzie. I take both of those and I'm currently experimenting with reducing the NAX and introducing adaptogens. I was on 4 NAX, but a few days ago reduced to 3 and added in one tablet of cordyceps and one tablet of ashwagandha. I have some rhodiola on order.

I don't have a proper, scientific explanation for why I'm doing that. I just know that, historically before I knew about adrenal stuff, it was ginseng that helped give me energy. That's an adaptogen too, but I find it over stimulates me.

Before supplementation my cortisol levels were weird and I'm hoping the adaptogens will even that out and help keep my cortisol levels more stable. I also think that NAX has adrenaline in, which is the main reason for reducing it.

For thyroid I take NT and thyroxine. Maybe you'd be ok on thyroxine alone, if your doctor will prescribe it?

Do you have any thyroid test results? Have you had the saliva cortisol test done?

Yes both via Genova. Low Cortisol and low T3...all else fine...

Things to consider if you have low cortisol:

* Hydrocortisone cream (Dr P's advise to me was that this is safe to use in low doses - I use the equivalent of 20mg HC). There's an excellent adrenal support group on Facebook. I can PM you the link if you'd like

* High doses of Vit C. Dr P suggested at least 3g daily

* Co-enzyme Q - again, Dr P advised at least 50mg daily

* Liquorice and ginseng drops. I tried those but they raised my blood pressure as Dr P warned that they could.

* Adaptogenic herbs - as I said above I'm just starting to trial those and reducing the glandulars. I understand that the most commonly taken ones are ashwagandha and rhodiola.

I know that Dr P believes that we should treat the adrenals before treating thyroid.

Another option, if you have low T3 as well as low cortisol, is to try the CT3M (circadian T3 method), developed by Paul Robinson. He has an excellent book (Recovering with T3) and website. I think this method treats both thyroid and adrenals. I don't use it, so can't comment.

Hi, I've had a quick look and although the link below doesn't answer your question directly, I thought it might be a useful to browse.
