Any success stories with stopping levo and changing to Nutri Thyroid only? (with long term Hashi)

Anyone with Hashimotos had success stopping levo and going onto Nutri Thyroid? Ive recently seen dr p and hes now told me to stop levo complete and stick to NT 2-3 and NAX 2. Feeling very drained, severe headaches and high anxiety.

Millefleur, did Dr. P say why and how long you should follow that protocol?

Clutter, spoke to him on the phone on wed and he said levo is doing me no good and he wants to get me on NT only. So told to stop taking Levo completely and take 2 NAX and 2 NT rising to 3 NT next week. Ive got app with him again in Crawley next thur. I am v v anxious and restless with headaches.

Millefleur, I agree the Levothyroxine is probably causing problems but you will need more than NutriThyroid shortly. Have you ordered T3? It would make sense to have it standing by ready.

I havn't ordered it, no Clutter. It has crossed my mind, but Dr P doesnt seem to be going down that route. I am waiting for Dr P to ring me back. I just wish a uk endo would prescribe t3 rather than have to order it on the internet. So you dont have to take levo and t3? You can just have t3?

Millefleur, I'd certainly recommend you take T3 only for 3 or 4 months while the build up of T4 or rT3 clears your system. Once T4 has cleared you can try reintroducing some to the T3. If you get adverse effects you'll know that it isn't due to a build up of T4 or rT3 and should stick with T3 only. I couldn't tolerate T4 only but having cleared a toxic build up I am well on T4+T3.

millefleur40,

When I saw Dr P he told me the same but I was to restart Levothyroxine after 1 week. He advised NAX and NT would help by supplementing anything that was missing from synethic T4.

Are you sure he is meaning you to replace your thyroid meds with NT?

Nutri claim it doesn't even have any hormone in it.

Yes Flower007 stop levo completely. Not just a break. I was hoping some ppl on here had been doing the same.

Gosh that it brave. I hope it all works out for you millefleur40.

I would love to be off Levothy"toxin" too.

Keep a record of how you feel everyday and monitor the TSH closely because mine too went from suppressed to something like 28.0 when I followed this exact same plan.

Lots of luck, you could well be on your way

I am on levothyroxine and nutri thyroid as additional support. Nutri thyroid is hormone washed and does not give any replacement hormone just support. If your thyroid cannot make enough thyroid hormones I don't think nutri thyroid will provide what you don't make. I think it's just a great supplement but not a replacement for hormone. I havenit needed to cut back on levo since nutri thyroid, in fact I've had my levo doubled.

I have just been through this same protocol with Dr P as in he told me to stop T4 completely and take the NAX only for 10 days then start on Nutri Thyroid he did say to take a half dose of T4 if I felt I missed it. I increased the Nutri over the next month but other stuff started happening with tendinitis and increase in the body pain and headaches I was still getting with t4 only. I just had bloods done (2 months since Dr P)and My T4 has plummeted and TSH high. Because of being unwell (ie leg pain and on crutches) I did not do all the follow up with Dr P and since then although he said the Nutri Thyroid has hormone in it I have heard from others ( and it says on the bottle hormone free ) that it does not. I have decided to self medicate on T 3
