I had my gallbladder out 18 months ago. I'm still getting pain in that area. Is this another thyroid problem? I have an appointment with my GP next week to review everything and would like to understand more about which of my symptoms are thyroid related,I don't want fobbing off.

Hi Anbuma, I had gallstones. But as regard thyroid and liver,I believe it's to do with conversion of T4 to T3,I have read something about it in Recovering with T3. but it's a bit technical.

Hi, I also had my gall bladder out a year ago however, I would ask you to insist on a liver function panel. I have hashimotos, but because mine has been untreated for the last twenty odd years it has caused me to have autoimmune liver disease.....I have autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis.

There is mention of a direct link between hashimotos and autoimmune liver disease in various clinical papers, and believe me these are not very pleasant diseases to have, they are also rare... I always tell people to get their liver function done because with both these illnesses there is pain in the upper right abdomen (liver area)...and I would not want anyone else to go down the road I have.

Hi Gall Bladder disease, is hormonal and autoimmune,,so thyroid related often, like many things. However, it is not liver disease, totally different condition It is unusual but it can take a while to clear up post Op, depends if it was so bad that you had cholocystitis before the OP.

best wishes,

jackie

Hi Beaton I have Hashi….Just had my gallbladder out 2months ago…hernia repair…liver cyst removed….I believe I had thyroid problems for at least 10 years and I believe it causes damage including my tendons and so on…the point is you may have a liver cyst. That can cause discomfort. Before I was treated my blood work for my liver was elevated. They may need to do a scan and take a look at the liver. Many people have liver cyst and are not aware of them but if they cause discomfort then they should be removed. Hope this helps. 5858
