I had gall bladder problems prior to diagnosis but this is different. Lower, more a dull ache. Sometimes I get pain that seems to wrap around my hip and I’m not sure if it’s related or not. I don’t think it is.
Sometimes like now, it flares up and is quite sore - makes me want to pinch/massage my side in the soft part above my hip, but it’s usually goes away after a few days.
I can’t make up my mind if it’s gut related or something else.
Think I’ll definitely go and see the gp about it now though, it’s been hanging around for a while.
If not gallstones, there are various other possibilities around the gall bladder, bile duct and liver. It's worth seeing your GP, and asking for liver function tests and an ultrasound. I had similar aches with just the occasional stabbing pain. When I had a Medichecks Ultimate Performance blood test done, it showed an elevated GGT level. The GP followed up on that, as we both thought it sounded like gallstones. Well, an ultrasound found early stage NAFLD (fatty liver) which would not have been spotted otherwise until much later. No gallstones. However, that still didn't explain the GGT, so been checked for various other things (including hepatitis A and C) but all clear. My suspicion is a side effect to another medication that I've been taking, so I've just weaned myself off it and have another liver function test due in about a week's time. Better to get off medication that causes liver damage. Thankfully, if caught early enough the liver is good at repairing itself, so I'm hoping it was indeed that medication. Anyway, enough rambling - go get the GP to check you out - liver function tests and ultrasound of gall bladder and liver. Whilst liver things caught early can normally be sorted, liver things found late are another matter.
I have noticed l have a similar sounding pain and recently narrowed it down to when l drink alcohol - which is rare these days. So l think it is my Liver struggling to cope with the toxins. It’s taken ages to discover this as it is low inside my right hip and feels a bit like cramp. I can ease it by stretching my foot up to my backside by bending my knee and grabbing hold of my foot to pull it up behind me!
If there is the possibility of alcohol-related fatty liver disease, stop partaking and go see your GP. If that's what it is, you want to catch it before any scarring occurs and ideally before inflammation occurs.
I thought it was an ovarian cyst at first as l have polycystic ovaries, or was related to cycling, driving or sitting too long at my desk, but l do seem to only be getting it when l drink alcohol. I have cut out gluten, most dairy, caffeine, have reduced and am working on cutting out sugar and now the alcohol has to go! But l do feel better for all of this. (l take 75mg Levo daily and 15mg Matavive once a week to give me some T3 without heart palpitations which happen if l take it daily). Let me know if you find it is alcohol related in you too. I do notice ringing in my ears especially in the morning - seems to be since taking Metavive but could be a coincidence- does anyone else notice this?
Sounds like it could be IBS or something similar. The liver is much higher than that so your pain is probably coming from your intestines. I hope your GP gets to the bottom of it.
I had severe pains like that a few years back and it only happened if I drank alcohol, I rarely drank anyway, but even a small glass of wine would be enough to set off the pains and I’d be doubled up. It all came to a head when I was out on a hen night and ended up collapsing and being blue lighted to hospital! ( I hadn’t even had much as I was never a big drinker anyway!) They said it was my body’s way of telling me that it could no longer tolerate alcohol and I needed to stop drinking and allow my liver to heal. It’s now in pretty good nick as it was caught pretty quickly.
Go and see the GP and insist on full blood testing and scan of possible. Good luck, fingers crossed for you xx
I have had issues such as yours in the past also. They would come and go without any real pattern. Had gallbladder removed in 1974 and hysterectomy in 2008 so nothing that could point to them. I did notice when I had the most 'flare ups' with this my antibodies were elevated and at that time I was on T4 only. Since getting my antibodies down and going to a combo of T4/T3 they have subsided. Not to say I haven't had any since but very few and far between now.
I'm so sorry you are having some rough times . And I know it can be very painful . I found that I was not metabolizing my fats well . As a result I developed fatty liver and jaundice with lots of pain . It's very possible it was an on going issue that I had Hashimoto and never diagnosed even with all of my issues that I was having till I got to the point of needing TT .
What I found very helpful for me with congested gallbladder/liver is digestive enzymes , bile salts to take before meals and after the meal to take Betaine HCl . It took about 1-2 weeks to feel a huge improvement for me .
What is also very helpful I found was to go Gluten dairy, eggs ,coffee, soy, sugar, corn free .
Here is a list of medications that can cause liver damage. I knew about statin drugs but was surprised by some on the list, including Acetaminophen Poisoning. In the UK, the most common name is Paracetamol. In the U.S., the major brand name is Tylenol. Unfortunately, you have to be careful, as they slip acetaminophen into a lot of other products such as cold tablets.
