Is anyone on a combination of t4 and t3 treatments? Blue Horizon test shows my T3 is at the bottom of the range.

Hi

I am still experiencing many symptoms of hypo despite taking 50mcg of Levothyroxine since Nov 2013.

Tired, insomnia, aches and gaining weight.

By the way, all bloods done by GP in December 13 showed that B12, Vit D, ferritin and folate levels are okay.

I did an Advanced Thyroid Profile home blood test on Monday 13 January at 9 am before taking my 50 mcg daily dosage of thyroxine.

My thyroid function is now normal but I'm wondering if I might benefit from T3 as well - Cytomel? and wondered about others' experiences.

Grateful for any help.

Blood test results are now:

total t4 107 range 59 - 154

tsh 0.36 range 0.27 - 4.2

free thyroxine 18.0 range 12 - 22

free t3 3.9 range 3.1 - 6.8

thyroid peroxidase antibodies = 50.2 range = 0 - 34

thyroglobulin antibody 41.6 NEGATIVE range = 0-115

You are on a very low dose of Levo. I am not surprised you still suffer hypo symptom. Ask your GP if you can up it. I was on t3 and levo but went to a private endo who persuaded my GP to prescribe T3. I felt a lot better on T3 aswel but it is not for everyone but worth asking your GP to trial you on it,

Your GP is another who is a TSH diagnosis devotee. He is ignoring your clinical symptoms. Ask your GP which active thyroid hormone enables your body, particularly your brain, to function well. (I am just being cheeky). It is T3 and yours is extremely low. Ask if he can add some T3 as you appear not to be converting enough from the low dose of T4.

50mcg is a starting dose and some may feel well on this but you obviously don't and your dose should be increased. He can add T3 is too low.

Maybe send him a copy of these articles:-

Go to date November 20, 2002 to read the answer to question:-

Hi! my last doctors left me wallowing on 50mcg of levothyroxine & as yourself still had all the symptoms. I changed doctors & asked to be prescribed T3 which has to be done through a consultant. I have just had a total thyroidectomy & take 75mch of Levo & 20 mcg of Liothyronine (T3) and have never felt better xx
