B12 9491) Vit D. they didn't do this but I had this done in August 12 and it was 83.1. Folates were 6.5. And they did my ferritin again which has gone up to 78, I have been taking iron tablets since August 12 when my ferritin was 35 so that has gone up.

Please advise. Don't actually know what follates are??

Thanks Hettie

Have taken the liberty of changing your heading Hettie as relying on just my opinion is not a good move.lol.

Is your B12 really 9491 or should have that been (491). Your ferritin level is good as is your last vitD levels. Your B12 could be a bit higher - 600 to 700 would be ideal.

Do you have any ranges to go with those folate results?

Hi Moggie, but what are the folates okay? Yes you're right I didn't have the key down for a bracket instead I put a 9 for the B12

To be able to tell you if your folates are o.k. you need to get the range as every lab has different ranges. Phone your GP's and ask for the range of your folate test.

Folate is folic acid

Here is something I found on the internet for you to read about folic acid.

Folic acid, known as folate in its natural form, is one of the B-group vitamins.

Folic acid has several important functions. For example, it:

•works together with vitamin B12 to form healthy red blood cells

•helps reduce the risk of central nervous system defects such as spina bifida in unborn babies

A lack of folic acid could lead to folate deficiency anaemia.

Good sources of folic acid

Folic acid is found in small amounts in many foods. Good sources include:

•broccoli

•brussel sprouts

•liver

•spinach

•asparagus

•peas

•chickpeas

•brown rice

•fortified breakfast cereals

How much folic acid do I need?

Adults need 0.2mg of folic acid a day.

Folic acid cannot be stored in the body, so you need it in your diet every day.

Most people should be able to get the amount they need by eating a varied and balanced diet.
