Has anyone tried coconut oil?

Iv`e been reading about the benefits of coconut oil for cooking, & people are saying that it has wonderful health benefits, especially for the thyroid. Iv`e decided to try it myself. Has anyone else tried it yet, if so, was it any good?

I used it a lot a few years ago and didn't replace the tub that I had.

I have bought some more. Going to put some on my hair too and some people use is as a moisturiser.

Don't pay a high price for it. No need to buy it from health food shops or supermarket, it is only £2.49 for a large tub from your local Indian food shop :-)

Yes, it's brilliant. It's a great handcream too - anti bacterial, antiviral and antifungal. It does sit on the surface of the hands for a while so don't use if just before opening jars. Put a small spoonful in the bath too with some essential lavender oil. x x

Jane how do you always manage to come up with such enticing answers, think I might try that bath.x

It makes cleaning the bath more tricky, but well worth it! x x

If you are using it for your thyroid gland it should be Virgin Coconut Oil. It raises your metabolism too.

Bought a pot a few weeks ago and then went for a vega allergy test. Vega has been a helpful guide in the past. I was really surprised to find some usual culprits of mine like dairy and beef were no longer showing but instead coconut oil had joined the no list along with batch 81377 lio.

Anyone want half a pot? or perhaps I'll put it on my hair?

Guess we're all different.

I have just purchased some Virgin Coconut Oil and am going to try alongside the Vit B12 and Vit D recommended by my Doctor, currently on 125mcg Levo and don't want to increase to 150mcg. I have been on Levo for over a year now but I am still feeling extreme tiredness and back and knee pain. Fingers crossed it will do something to eliviate my symptoms.

Vitamins/minerals are also essential for our thyroid.

My daughter has just shown me a graph in a healthy eating book she is reading that shows coconut oil as being full of saturated fats. Like you all I've thought it was supposed to be full of health giving properties. Does this matter?

A teaspoon goes on my porridge, use it to roast potatoes and parsnips too. Didn't work with an omlette though.

I thought the cold pressed extra virgin oil was supposed to be the best, I bought some online (check around for prices) but also found it in Sainsbury's.

Hiya,

I use virgin coconut oil to make vegan chocolates for me and my friend. Since making the chocolates a few months ago I find that I feel better after eating them. I didn't make any for a few weeks and I felt more down and negative. In addition to having half my thyroid removed earlier this year for cancer and now being hypothyroid I am also diabetic. My treat prior to this was a little very dark 85% cocoa chocolate but as it contains soya lecithin, a form of slurry left over from oil refining that affects thyroid function I've tried to eliminate it from my diet to prevent the return of the cancer. I still suffer from hypothyroid symptoms and have lost my job because of this horrid condition, I'm still under medicated and my endo is increasing my dosage of Levo very slowly, I do feel mentally a bit better after having a couple of my chocolates every day. I also use the coconut oil in other recipes and sometimes sneak a teaspoon whilst cooking. All I can say is try it and see how you feel.
