I've just had bloods done and these levels are not good. I need advice because because I have to start a big job soon and now I'm crying.
Serum iron. 7.6 (6.6 - 26.0)
Iron binding satn. 12.0 ( 15 - 50 ) Low
calcium. 2.17 ( 2.10 - 2.55)
calcium ( corrected ) 2.09 ( 2.10 - 2. 55 ) low
25 OH Vitamin D. 54 ( 50 - 200)
B12 + RCF
HCT. 0.405 ( 0.33 - 0.45 )
Red cell folate. 304 (158 - 1099)
I have had other things tested and they seem ok. I just picked out the ones that look wrong. I have permanent pins and needles in my mouth and tongue. When I wake in the morning it's as though I've been sedated. Laboured breathing and total weakness.
Do I have hypocalcaemia and anaemia?
Could these bloods explain why I feel awful. I'm so fed up.
Hi These are classic symptoms of thyroid disease, so probably under treated. First essential to have a new test for tSH, T4 and Free T3.Ideally T4 top third of range and FT3, near the top.Needs checking every time meds altered.
The iron/feritin much too low. The best test, NHS, but has to be written in, is absorption %. This should be high. You need treatment for the iron/frritin any way, usually permanent but retest after 3 months, to check the dose and then annually.
Calcium is low. In this circumstances if having vit D prescribed it should be with calcium, NICE. However, you do need to have a retest in3 months of both. Then 6 monthly. What is your B12 and Foliate test result? it needs to be high in range. Ypu also need a Hb1Ac test for diabetes, annually.
Thank you so much for replying. I've started taking SPA Tone with a vitamin C fizzy tablet for better absorption. I'm doing this at night so that it doesn't interfere with my ERFA. I also yesterday went and purchased some CACIT D3 effervescent granules from the chemist and I've started taking that in the morning 4hrs after my ERFA.
I don't know if I've had my B12 done but I have put my RED CELL FOLATE results in my original post. I don't know what that is?
Xx
Forgot to say that I'm seeing my endo again this Friday.
HI It is the foliate test, related to B12. Usually done together, but I have never myself had that specific test.Yes, most Endos and people with thyroid conditions would say that B12 is too low and the foliate could do with being a bit higher too. However GP may not treat it as in "normal" range. If Endo good they will suggest being treated via the GP, be sure to mention it.Likewise the ferritin .iron., although that is easy to self treat but you should not nee4d to. Retest for thee after 4 months if on treatment for them. Then annually if OK.You should be having D and calcium from the GP on a script, talk to Endo. You will need retests, especially after 3 months of treatment, standard
Personally. I go by the advice as vit C not needed nor desirable.
I always make a list for myself, a prompt when seeing consultants. So annoying, when one forgets something. If GP not able to do the TSH, T4 with the FT3, the Endo should and the other tests. Do not forget the Diabetes as often missed, to start with few symptoms and very like thyroid ones. Annual tests.
Thank you so much Jackie for all your advice. It is so helpful. It can be a very lonely and soul destroying journey. Sometimes I just want to throw the towel in!!!
Glad to have helped. You will be as good as new once your levels are right, it does take a while. You may have to be firm with a few docs along the way!
