An opinion on my results please.

I recently had a blood test done by Blue Horizons The results as below,

Total Thyroxine (t4) 126 nmol/l range 59 - 154

TSH 0.94 mIU/l range 0.27 - 4.2

Free Thyroxine 15.5 pmol/l range 12.0 - 22.0

Free T3 4.9 pmol/l range 3.1 - 6.8

Thyroglobulin antibody 21.1 IU/mL range 0 - 115(neg)

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies 12.1 IU/mL range 0 - 34

The above from what I can work out would indicate a perfectly functioning Thyroid.

I have been tested on several occasions by different GP's after explaining my symptoms. These always come back normal.

I have a lot of the symptoms of Hypothyroid, I first started to feel unwell several years ago, first signs were alopecia on head and body, rash, dry skin, weight gain, lack of energy etc. The symptoms have got progressively worse, although my hair did grow back.

I was under severe stress at work, eventually having a breakdown. This situation has been resolved but I remain unwell. Any discussions with GP's always now end up with depression being diagnosed due to the breakdown. I don't believe the way I feel, especially the physical symptoms can just be down to depression. Before this, I had never had a day off work due to illness in 30 years.

Family history is difficult as I am adopted, but I do know a half sister is being treated for Hypothyroid.

I would really like to put the issue of Thyroid to rest and look else where for cause of my problems.

I certainly don't think any NHS doctor is going to treat on the above results.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts you may have.

Have you had B12 tested?

Thanks for the reply,

I had wondered if I should have B12 tested as well, the Lab still has my blood so I could get this done.

I have looked at the similarities in symptoms, but felt other symptoms in B12 deficiency do not apply to me.

Hi, I'm no Doc by any means. I've just been reading a lot lately about thyroid and also adrenals ... have you had any tests for your adrenal function ? Not sure what they are exactly but cortisol (you can buy a saliva test online at about £75) and DHEA. I read that when we have a breakdown that it isn't a 'nervous breakdown' but an 'adrenal breakdown'. Just a thought ? Good luck and all the best. :)

Have you had any joint or muscle pain, and what was the rash like? Have you been tested for SLE (lupuserythematosis), at all?

I have found it impossible to get NHS treatment with bloods far less optimal than those, so can't see you getting taken very seriously either :-(

Best suggestions I could make have already been said... Adrenal output [Cortisol blood test and/or 24hr salivary test] especially as you mention stress, and vit B12, but would also suggest looking at and/or supplementing as necessary - Iron/Ferritin; Vitamin D3 (if you supplement also take Vitamin K2 [NOT Vitamin K] to keep calcium in your bones!); Folate (if you supplement, see chriskresser.com/folate-vs-... for info on the right type) and Selenium.
