Hi, melodypond: I have not tried it but I have been looking with interest because it is made from Bovine thyroid gland rather than pig thyroid. It is made from NZ cows fed on grass and is disease-free because there have been no cases of BSE in New Zealand. It is also free of many substances which can cause problems - the fillers and binders in many other forms of thyroid medication.

The reason I did not take it was mainly because at the time I had unresolved heart issues caused by many years of under-treatment. I contacted Tammy Lowe via the website and asked her advice. She said that because it has T3 in it the same as other natural thyroid products, it would be advisable to sort out the heart problems first.

Have you looked at the website? It is very informative, and if there are any questions not answered on the website, you can contact them and ask anything you want, Tammy Lowe or her medical associates will help you. I think that a very large number of people in the US are using it with great results. If you are unable to tolerate synthetic T4 or T3 alone, this is a natural product from cows which has the added advantage that it is suitable for those who cannot or do not wish for religious reasons to have a product derived from pigs. I, for example, have always been allergic to pork and so I would not risk taking Armour.

It is, of course classified as a 'food supplement'. This is a decision on the part of Dr Lowe to enable it to be used without prescription. It is perfectly legal to buy Thyro-Gold without prescription. However, do not be confused. This is a proper thyroid hormone product, unlike products such as 'Nutri-thyroid'. Like Armour it contains T4, T3, T2 and T1 , and ideally should be taken under some form of medical supervision.

The website, for those who are unfamiliar with Thyro-Gold, is: naturalthyroidsolutions.com/

Are you thinking seriously of trying it? If you are, are you going it alone or with support? I do think that the website seems very supportive and helpful.

....regarding heart problems - you may wish to take a look on Amazon at the book - The Thyroid and Heart Failure - it was pointed out to me by another person on this forum. You can read it on-line as it costs over 100 GBP's !! It is about the medical research being done in Pisa Italy and it is clear that T3 is the star of the show ! An article regarding their findings is also on PubMed - sorry can't do links :-)

Since being on T3 only I have noticed that I am aware of my heart beat just when my next dose is due and after taking it everything settles down again. Of course we are so individual and have different experiences.

Am tempted to buy the book as living in an ex-pat community so many people have heart problems but I also think they have thyroid problems too ! Low T3 Syndrome I feel will soon become recognised in mainstream medicine....especially with the added evidence of the Genetic Test......

Marz, I am going to be posting a blog about what I have done to overcome my problems - do look out for it.

T3 is definitely the answer - but it would be the very devil to get it prescribed here with a pre-existing heart problem since all guidelines - even those who DO admit T3 is right for some people - dismiss it out of hand for those over 60 and those with heart problems - even though the heart problem is down to low thyroid levels!

Hi Marram, do you know how much thyroid hormone Thyro-gold (i.e. T4, T3 , T12 and T1) contains? I have searched in vain to get this info. My computer wont let me email Tammy Lowe - I' m in U. K. -

Thanks for any help you can give

I haven't but you can look down this list of alternative thyroid gland medications to Thyro Gold for more information which is helpful:

stopthethyroidmadness.com/a...

Also cursor down this review till you come to Thyro Gold comment.

You have probably read the reviews on the Thyro Gold site itself - began by Dr Lowe's wife after he died (RIP).

If not

naturalthyroidsolutions.com...

PS It was originally in 300mcg but is now in 150 too.

I tried it but had to come off it as the T4 in it made me toxic. I was getting heart palpitations and breathlessness. It was the same when I tried Armour. I don't convert very well so it was building up in my blood stream. I am on T3 only now. I would love to be able to take one of the NDT's but Dr P says I probably won't be able to. I can try again when I get my adrenals sorted and have stabilised my T3 dose but he doesn't hold out much hope.

I am in a similar situation, sandyd.

Hi sandyd!

How do you know that you'r convertion is not good? My mother is trying to take thyroid meds and the only one that she can take is Nutri-Meds Porcine thyroid, but it has low hormone in it and her TSH is very high right now. Every time that she takes a synthetic hormone (T4 and T3 or just T4) she just gets crazy, all hyper symptoms, no matter which quantity that she takes. She she took i grain of Thyroid-S, after like a week her blood pressure started to get high. We don't know what to do or what's going on...
