Some surgeons give their patients thyroxine for an indefinite period after the operation in an attempt to avoid transient hypothyroidism and to remove any stimulus to regeneration of the gland.
You should have been on a suppressive dose of thyroid medication to stop the thyroid growing back, particularly important if it was removed for cancer. I always thought that this was standard practice but reading a lot of posts here it doesn't seem to have penetrated a lot of GPs and even endos sculls. A suppressive dose is below range, so below egTSH 0.3
The problem with regrowth as well as it being a danger to having a recurrence in cancer is that the cells can regrow in an disorganised way and in the wrong place.
I was kept on 150 mics of Levo. No change. I DID become quite depressed and if its loss was a factor, THIS ONE STAYS! I don't care. They can just put me on active surveillance like my ascending aortic aneurysm! I'm tired and I'm done!
Well, Santa just decided to come VERY EARLY this year, DIDN'T HE! Because, I haven't had ENOUGH SURGERY in my life! Thankfully, ALMOST all scars are faded or hidden. Mine just started to hurt a few days ago, it's the way it SHOWS so much that concerns me.
Immediately after surgery I was on 125 now on 100 but my T3is low Dr wanted to drop me to 75 but felt unwell on this level having blood test tomorrow hopefully Dr will decide what to do next I will also discuss the pain in neck and possibility of thyroid regrowth
Ik,r? I'm still praying big Butterfly crawled down my trachea today or I'm tripping WITHOUT drugs. Can my husband and I see this perfect specimen and have it just be the antifreeze I put in his coffee, than drank some, forgetting? KIDDING! I'm twisted...Ret. cop thing.
I'm on 150mics of Levo, as I have been for 23 years. My weight is fine. I'm praying for a shared hallucination or mental illness at this time.
Oh, it's also sore again. Did I already mention I only had it yanked out on December 10th of 2016?
I have good insurance, is this why? <comment deleted> Thought I'd try.
12/10/16, total Thyroidectomy for Hashimoto's disease. Two weeks of random trouble swallowing. Today, 2/7/17, a "Perfect, decent sized Butterfly" appears to have flown down my trachea and landed EXACTLY where my Thyroid used to be. Tell me I'm tripping on....wait, I don't use drugs. Just tell me I'm crazy and my husband and I are sharing a hallucination. Thank you very much and God Bless You. .
