Prolapse

My wife Margaret aged 75 in November has got a prolapse she has been advised by her doctor because she has had a hysterectomy it rules out one way of repair, pessaries are a alternative but have to be changed and cleaned often to avoid infection etc,she was also told the type of surgery depends on the severity of the prolapse.

Has anyone had experience of prolapse repair they can pass on to my wife.

Thank you

Not me, but my Mum. She was about 80, went into hospital for a hysterectomy due to a long term prolapse. She had 'non-invasive' procedure, removing her uterus through the normal opening without cutting her open. As a result, she recovered very quickly and was home within three days and feeling much better.

There is a Facebook group FPOPSuk that is very helpful and informative .

Yeo I had a repair front and back ..best thing I ever did as I managed it for 10 yrs with hrt vitimins kegal 8 ...honest if offered go for it ...recovery is a bit long so at least 3 months before bk to normal...dont be put off by the recovery if you have anterior and postier there's alot of stitches so they take time to heal....honest I'm 66 had it done 2 years ago I went private but only cos I was anxious but if you get a good consultant you're fine...I went to spire so my consultant had more time to talk me through it ..he was marvellous...Good luck x

I had front and rear prolapse op (inc hysterectomy) 8 years ago. Straightforward for consultant and although it perhaps took 2 years before I felt “normal”, I’m sure it was the right decision and certainly dont regret it. I wish your wife well - the NHS knows what it’s doing re prolapse

However, I already had ibs issues beforehand and the prolapse op didn’t alter that. I’m still trying to manage my ibs and even now I still believe that one day I’ll get it sorted. I love to read of others success stories, so thank you folks.
