Hi thanks

That’s where I might have gone wrong I was on Lansoprazole for a long time and start of last week I stopped because I thought I had inflamed bowel and it said one of the causes could be long term use of anti acid medication

So I need to re start taking them and hopefully will help.

I do stupid things sometimes when I read google, dangerous I know.

It's known that many people have to little stomach acid instead of too much. Too litle acid is bad for the digestion of food and can cause other problems with our bowel as well. The question is if you really have too much acid, has this been tested thoroughly, or if there's something else going on in your digestive tract. That's why seeing an experienced gastroenterologist so important for us. They may not have all the answers (yet) but can be of more help then a GP. In my case the gastroenterologist does acknowledge that I have a (functional) problem but he, now a she, because he retired, can't do much more than already has been done. I'm waiting for the results of the lactulose breath test, the last examination in a process that started two years ago, when I had my first appointment with a gastroenterologist. In the meanwhile I'm trying a lot of different natural products, now on a trial of cinnamomum zeylanicum ('true' cinnamon) because I still think dysbiosis is the cause of all symptoms I experience. Probably already started when I was a little boy and very, very slowly got worse. Real cause? I don't know. Genes, not being breastfed, antibiotics before my third birthday? Now just trying to alleviate the bodily symptoms, including the problems with my gut and brain.

Just take ppis like lansoprazole for short periods when you need them, long term does damage and your GP should know this.

I've had trapped wind in my stomach especially at night.......for weeks and then it goes. It doesnt last long but long enough to start worrying about stomach ulcer, I cant pin it down to anything except maybe bread. Thought it was wine but it happened with or without drinking alcohol.

I've changed to bread every 2nd day and more water,.... so far ok for 2 weeks. Strange the reactions we get.

My consultant prescribed Fibergel, it has really improved my painful wind, I would definitely recommend trying it.

Rennie Deflatine will take care of it!

How many best to take to help it, I have taken that but not sure if it really helped. It does say up to 11 a day

I don't really take very many (2 or 4) before the problem goes away. You might look on YouTube for speciific IBS Yoga poses - I don't do them but they are supposed to help. Good luck! Also, get your doctor to prescribe mebeverine for you. That helps with everything.

Other hint - chewing fennel seeds and drinking fennel or peppermint tea might be useful for normal bloating and may help a bit with trapped wind.

Have just left you a comment relating to your 'flares' post but thought I would add that Buscopan IBS works well....IBS sufferers as well as IBD people (now me) all say it is very effective and I think more so than other meds for wind. However, it states on packaging not to be used for more than 2 weeks constantly so try that first and move to something like mebeverine on prescription long term if need be...

I sometimes wonder if a day or two of fasting and using laxatives helps. I've had 2 colonoscopies in the last year (all clear now) and notice most problems disappear for a while. My GP and gastroenterologist said a clear out is often helpful, ( I had diarrhea overflow without realising sometimes I had mild constipation.) I also cut out most fats. I dont get diarrhea anymore except maybe one time twice a year. I still get wind at night after lying down for a few hours but not anything like I used to....still going to see a nutritionist though.
