I don't notice any effect even of 4 buscopan (and they're expensive!).
Colpermin I think is useful. I like anyway.
Buscopan didn't seem to do anything when I had a flare up but I found that peppermint oil tablets (from Holland and Barrett) worked really well for me (colpermin gave me heartburn!)
I use Colpermin daily and they help with the burbling tummy but the best thing to help me was changing to decaffeinated tea and coffee. I still get flare ups but not as bad as before.
I benefited from switching from Buscopan to Mebeverine and take 1 before food. Peppermint oil doesn’t help me but walking outdoors , gentle yoga, peppermint Rennies and aniseed Gaviscon are my go to’s. Hope your flare up clears soon.
stress and anxiety can definitely cause flare ups. I have used colpermin and the peppermint oil capsules from H&B..the woman I spoke to in the chemist said the only difference is the colpermin is pro longed release where as the generic one is quicker release and more likely to repeat on you. Personally I’m happy with the H&B ones there’s not enough of a difference for me to spend extra money on the colpermin ones as they do the same thing. The buscopan works for me but doesn’t do much different compared to the peppermint oil to be honest. But everyone is different I guess it’s a matter of trial and error to see what works best for you
I took colpermin many years ago. They helped with cramps and regularity but would constantly repeat on me. As same as you I asked H&B they said similar at the time. We're talking over 20 ish years ago. I bought the peppermint capsules they gave me tummy ache. However this was a long time ago. They may of made improvements to the capsule. I now have acid reflux. I did think of trying them again but alittle apprehensive in case I still can't tolerate them.
It’s a mine field isn’t it, my latest flare up I’m sure started with acid reflux
My gp told me they do tend to come together ibs & acid reflux. Not quite the news I wanted to hear 🤷♀️
I wondered if they could be linked🥴
I think IBS and dyspepsia which causes reflux are linked. I'm wondering if it was the peppermint capsules that initially triggered that though, maybe in combination with other things as i remember getting reflux when taking peppermint capsules and i remember having heartburn for 3 weeks when living in my old flat. I can probably pin point dates thanks to gmail and work it out but the docs would never believe me anyway!
Same they gave me reflux. Reluctant to try again but gastro recommended ... dont think i will! Peppermint tea works well and my gp friend said lots of people find them too strong/ dont tolerate them. He also recommended polo mints
Buscopan don't work for me (except give me a headache), neither does mebeverine, Colpermin is definately the best peppermint tablet you can get but i think it has limited effect. I take Spasmonal (alverine citrate) which is really only thing that touches my symptoms ( which are mainly at night), i believe it works on the lower gut which is where i need it
I’m not sure if you can get it off prescription, but it’s worth checking out. Ask Doctor if not, it’s something you can take as and when you need it .
Colpermin is my preferred even though it is expensive Buscomint is second on my list but for me not so effective, however each of us is different and whatever works for you is best
I take Mebeverine, and some foods still get through....I'm trying this FODMAP thing....it does help, but any more than the recommended amount of food is very dangerous....💩💩
Peppermint oil gave me reflux but peppermint tea works for mild gut pain and gas. I dont think buscopan did anything for me but my main symptom isn't cramps, now that i've done dietary changes.
