IBS since 20
I don't know how old you are now, but I had IBS for years and have finally beaten it. I have 2 articles that may interest you:
one on flare-ups: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...
one on a potential cause of IBS-D and IBS-C: sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...
Hope this helps you move forward,

Hello Fergie53. I have had IBS for years, but GP put me on Mebeverine, and I feel fine now, I take 3 per day. I do hope this helps, life is bad enough, without IBS as well. Good luck:)>-<
Thank you metalmicky1, I have tried Mebeverine before and didn't help but I'm due to see my doctor again so will discuss
I eat bananas when I get a flare up and it's sorted withing an hour, there is always an alternative to medicines, you should look into different things.
Thanks Jimtom, when I eat bananas I get indigestion, can't win really! I find it's stress sets off my IBS
Do you do anything for the stress?
It's not just bananas, there are other foods that might help.
I try to cope with stress but I have anxiety and not easily dealt with..
I've started using Windeze Gel Capsules again for the pain (Buscupan does nothing for me now either) which work for me. If you get indigestion from bananas then I take bicarbonate of soda in water, might not taste great but it's worked for me for years.
Best of luck
Thanks I may try the Windeze capsules and thinking of trying peppermint capsules - I do take sodium bicarbonate in water, very good remedy!
They work for me so best of luck. Unfortunately peppermint doesn't work for me but we are all different. I've been taking bicarb for many years and there is nothing better.
Hope you feel better soon
buscopan slows down the natural transition of motions through the bowels. So if you sufer with constipation its not gonna be your best option. Can I suggest you read the new Patrick holford book re good gut health, teres some very helpful suggestions in there. I suffer dreadfully with bloating and cramps to the point of being hospitalized. I'm now taking high dose pre-biotics, use coated peppermint to ease gas build up, eat soluable fibre to help digestion and have started using chia seeds too on my morning cereal. You need to drink plenty but avoid too much caffeine and alcohol.
