Hi …. Does anyone else suffer from upper left quarter / centre pain and discomfort. Side almost feels sore (almost like muscular soreness). Constant belching and flatulence, sometimes loose or constipated. Been going on for 4 months. Had colonoscopy and Abdominal and Pelvic CT scan, all clear but symptoms persist. Starting to wear me down!’
Be interested to see if anyone else has similar symptoms.
Thank you in advance

Yes, I have. I also thought it was muscular at first. I do have diverticulosis, but this discomfort has only started recently. The pain is usually more lower & central in nature. I am awaiting results of CT scan too. Colonoscopy picked up the diverticulosis.
Thank you for your reply … yes it may probably be wind but it’s quite painful and does worry me. The doctors insist all clear and asked me to consider stress counselling.
I have also been told it could be stress/health anxiety, but when you don’t know what’s making you feel so “crap” it’s only natural you will feel that way 🙄😖
The way to find out if it is trapped wind is to take Rennie Deflatine when you get the pain. If this helps, that might be your answer.
The mixture of constipation and looseness might actually all be down to constipation. The looseness might be overflow diarrhoea where liquid food seeps around impacted stool.
Being constipated will retain food in the system for longer, leading to a build up of gases and causing pain.
Try improving the constipation by increasing fibre. If you go more often, the gases and the pain may subside.
I can post tips on constipation here if needed.
As a side note, have you been tested for H. pylori? I heard of someone else who had stomach/gas pains and they tested positive for this. Maybe ask your GP about that first.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated. Yes recently tested for H pylori which came back negative. I’ve been told I have ibs but it’s becoming tiring as I seem to have constant pain. Dr happy with all my test results but said to go back in a month or so if still bothering me! Like a merry go round
Another thing that helped me with the pain was Alflorex probiotic, which has been studied for IBS. Many say it helps them a lot and others not at all. As with everything IBS, it is all a bit hit and miss.
Hi.I've had exactly the same problems for years. Initially after many scopes which were clear I was told that it was diverticulitis and was put on metronidazole and mebrevene.
It took a while as I was admitted to hospital for 11 days after which I was put on steroids for inflammation.
At the time of writing I've had another flair up the first since 2019 and I'm at home taking metronidazole from my doctor.
Thank you for your reply. I’m a bit stumped tbh … had all of the main tests, all clear but the pain still persists. Taking PPI and gaviscon in hope of relief. iBS really isn’t fun
Sorry for the late reply. You really must be suffering.
My neighbour has started liquid marine collagen from amazon for the same trouble and she says it's changed her life maybe its worth a shot I don't know if holland and barrett sell it it would be of course cheaper I think.
Was diagnosed with IBS at 21. My gut has been my “Achilles Heel” throughout my life. Have had many investigations over the years including going privately (when we had Medical Insurance through my husband’s job) but have really never got much relief.
I have problems throughout my gut from oesophagus to bowel and they are exacerbating with age.
Had acute Diverticulitis and a Pseudomonas infection leading to a bowel perforation 6 years ago.
Have just had a fast track 2 week referral this month for possible bowel cancer-CT Colonography showed no problems other than Diverticulitis of the Sigmoid Colon. Since then no relief and stomach problems back big time, episodes of constant belching and chest & stomach pains.
I’m on Esomeprazole 20mg a day for Gastro Esophageal Reflux but it’s certainly not containing things at the moment. The days when I have constant belching are exhausting and uncomfortable.
I’m considering consulting a Functional Practioner as getting no relief or support to manage ongoing symptoms. Like you I find my self at a very low ebb at the moment and it’s sapping all the enjoyment out of my life.
In addition I have an indolent blood cancer though thankfully this causes me less problems than my gut!
It’s all just so wearing when all you want to do is enjoy life!
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Sorry to hear of your blood cancer and hope you are doing ok.
Regarding the stomach…… Sounds a very similar situation to mine… had CT scan abdominal and pelvic, colonoscopy and H pylori test all negative. On PPI but that’s not helping so really scratching my head of what to try next. It’s stressing me out somewhat but almost at the point of accepting that this is something I have to put up with! On the positive my tests have come back normal/ clear
