I have suffered with ibs for many years and also have severe damaged sphincter sphincter muscles due to a problem when I was in labour many years ago. I take Immodium, which often causes constipation. I started with the above about eighteen months ago followed by severe diarrhea my problem is getting to the toilet in time without really pooing my pants. If I go on a trip now I am so tense incase it comes on and pours out of me. Does anyone else have this problem.

Josie I am so sorry to hear this. Are you getting any help with it? My problem is colitis, which is characterised by chronic D, so I am on high alert when I am out and about. Forward planning and loperamide helps me. I hope your medical team/GP is taking your situation seriously. Any chance of getting a repair?
Hi Josie I sympathise - I have the same problem am terrified of going out incase I have an attack as I can’t hold on. I too take Imodium regularly. I think the anxiety makes things worse.
Know how you feel - except for once have been able to get to the toilet, think this is because I have been doing sphincter excerises. Realise in your case you cannot do this. Is there any chance of repair surgery? I have reduced my anxiety when I go out for the day by taking an emergency kit with me and dosing myself up with Imodium, I am quite prepared in the future to where incontinence pants if my situation worsens. Wish you good luck🍀
Thank you for your advice and comments, I have had a couple of operations and I think I will have to accept it. It's sort of comforting knowing it's not only me. Thanks again for your replies.
I have heard that a damaged spinster can course IBS symptoms, I don’t no if this is true or not.
Unfortunately Lamly I had a very difficult delivery, my baby was breach and through negligence by the medical team I didn't have a section, unfortunate I lost my baby not long after birth. I had first accident shortly after then came the operations including a hysterectomy. I am a anxious person but this started after the tragic birth of our baby. So now forty years later my ibs is even worse and deteriorating with age. So I definitely think sphincter damage makes ibs so much worse as far as accidents are concerned.
