Hi all. As some may remember I suffer from ongoing mucus discharge from rectum. I had a colonoscopy done year and 3/4 ago and clear. All tests.I went gluten dairy free. It worked and did stop it happening everyday but for some weird reason past 3 weeks I've had all my symtoms back again with vengeance.
Mostly normal stool but not long after I feel like I need to go again and it's just brown or clear mucus. Then through the day it happens every few hours. I hate it and am really fed up with my life at present.
Been to see gp doctors and they said all tests were clear before and unless I'm passing blood they won't do anything. Just wear a diaper. Yea.
I'm bloated with it and stomach is very noisy also so I know it's bad again. It's such a horrible feeling when you know it's not stool it's watery mucus you need to discharge.
Has anyone at all got the same issue and is there any help.

Hi. Mum was doing this the other day. I spoke to her GP and he says it is to do with a change in gut bacteria and isn't anything to worry about. May not be the same for you but hope this helps
Hi. Yes it could be but this has been going on a while now. I might try some probiotics again and see if that helps slightly but maybe just have to live with this horrible condition
I’ve started to get this having been on the Zoe nutrition programme for about a year and taking the original Alflorex, so it could well be a change in gut microbiome. But stools seem firmer, which is a plus for me.
Like everything IBS, it’s a difficult juggling act to get the optimum symptom balance in the absence of a cure.
I had this for years, then for some unknown reason about 6 months ago it stopped and I've not had anything to speak of since. The thing is, I'm always trying this and that to try and improve things and it's hard to know what changes I've made that might have alleviated this problem. I've increased my fibre I know that and I use a bit of Flaxseed and Physilium Husk. I doubt this is of any help to you but thought I'd mention it.
Yes, I've had this for the last few years now. Oddly it seems to happen every couple of months sometimes once a month. Lasts either as a one off event at the time or can go on for a large part of day. Don't have any help to offer for it as I can't seem to find anything to help or why it occurs in the first place.
Just wanted to let you know that I am also fellow sufferer of it.
Hi catspaws. Thanks for the message. So is your stomach bloated and making noises with it or symptoms on there own. No one seems to understand it and even the doctors don't. They seem suprised when I say I feel gas build up and go to let it out but it's mucus only.
Yes, sometimes my stomach makes noises and I feel bloated. I was told by the G.P. that mucas was a classic symptom of IBS and there was nothing that could be done about it and not to worry about it.
Thanks for the reply. They also told me ibs at hospital when I had colonoscopy done shy of 2 years ago but I was really bad then. Passing mucus every hour. This time I've been bloated and noisy and just through out the day I feel I need to let some out. Sounds terrible but we are all here for similar things. Do you still get it often and how long does it last
Mine is very cyclical. Every two months , mid month or so. Can be monthly but usually 2 monthly. Likely to be a one off event during the day but can be a few times (one after the other) during the day. Rarely goes for more than one day at a time. I note the dates in a diary so I get an overall picture of how it plays out over time.
I was on another forum and someone recommended Ayurvedic meds. I went in a website called fushi well beingI thin it is, you find it on google and had nothing to lose. So far it's a game changer. Doesn't matter whether it's being bunged or loose. It repairs and soothes gut and bowels. I bought the bundle. Aloe Juice, a very good probiotic and a herb mix called Triphala. Do your homework. I've tried everything for years. Nothing helped. But so far this is doing the trick.
I was just slow gut. So mainly not going much. But, if I take a Laxido it's just the other way. No happy medium. I think the Triphala and the probiotic balances something. Put it this way, it's normal! Not one way or the other.
Ok thanks for the advice. I'm just getting worried but I had a scope camera less than 2 years ago at the height of all this and was clear so no point going through it again. Something kicks all this off so hopefully it calms down soon. Enjoy your evening and thanks for taking the time to reply
Have you looked into SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth)? Might look into that and see about getting rifaximin, the antibiotic that targets it. Another thing to maybe consider is a fat digestion issue? I had a similar problem -- the antibiotics treated the SIBO but I still a loose, mucousy stools and severe weight loss. Cutting all long-chain triglyceride fats helped (mid chain, such as coconut oil, instead) and I stopped losing weight. The stools didn't firm up until 10 months later when I traveled from US to Greece. Don't know why, but stools have been mostly firm since.
Hi. Thanks for the reply. Yes I've tried rifaximin but it did nothing for me at all unfortunately. That was one of the first things the specialist tried. It's been a rollercoaster of cutting everything out to try get better but it comes back worse than ever
Hi all. Had another bad few days again. Solid bowel movements of maybe 4 times a day which is fine then the gas and mucus pours out of me. Went to doctor and he said incontinence clinic for me. I'm 52 and feel like life is over. I said should I get a colonoscopy again since it's been a year half I think. He said you've had one and it was all clear which he was right. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I've ordered some good quality probiotics tonight so hopefully that helps me as it must be ibs.
