I have now seen a Gp re the bleeding piles and she’s confirmed they look sore I can confirm they feel sore I was incredibly anxious waiting to go into see her but calmed down a bit now I’am home so my question is doctor has now doubled up my fybogel to 2 a day that would help on days when I’am constipated but going to the doctors today (big issue with leaving the house ) I definitely don’t need any fybogel I need Imodium does any one else with IBS change from constipation to very loose bowels in a matter of a few hours
double up : I have now seen a Gp re the bleeding... - IBS Network
double up
Yes, I do, but mine is most often day to day. Yesterday I was "normal", but slightly veering towards constipation, a little bit. I took nothing. I just ate my normal dinner with veggies. Today I was a bit too loose.
Haven't doctors figured out yet that high fibre makes you "go"? I could have told them that four years ago. It was only when I cut my fibre intake down that I had any hope of managing my IBS D. This stuff about fibre being good for loose stool is not true, I think. One thing my body wouldn't like is Fybogel!
And the difference between soluble and insoluble fibre is just a technicality. In reality, foods that contain soluble fibre almost always contain INSOLUBLE fibre too.
I'm lucky because my gut does tolerate some fibre, so I can eat veggies within reason. But I certainly don't go overboard with it or I pay the price next day.
Perhaps going onto some bland low fibre foods at least for a few days might help? If your gut starts to tighten up a bit then a bit of something like brown rice or carrots or beetroot might help. I always find that. It's a balancing act I do daily.
Thanks for the reply I have often thought I would not take anything at all and just see what happens but that makes me worry that it will go towards constipation and that’s making my piles worse they are incredibly painful
Oh yes, that's true. You definitely don't need constipation. Do you have some cream or ointment that can numb the pain a bit?
Hi Poppyseed,
Sorry to hear about the haemorrhoids, I have exactly the same problem, if you don't mind me asking, are they internal or external haemorrhoids?
Both external and internal
Thanks Poppyseed, the biggest problem I have with them is the ones which "come out" every time I have a bowel movement, and also if I stand up or walk around for too long. I didn't realise the first time they "came out", the only thing you must immediately do is push them back in yourself, I stupidly thought that putting anusol, etc, was what you were supposed to do to make them "go back in", and because they therefore stayed out for so long before I realised that creams do nothing you just have to push them back in, it obviously did permanent damage to them , which is why they now come out regularly and make my life a misery. I was just wondering if, when you say you have external haemorrhoids, that is what you meant, ie ones like mine which come out after bowel movements, if you walk for too long, do exercise, etc?
Hi Poppyseed, hope you are as well as possible 😀. I replied to your reply 19 days ago and was just asking you if when you said you had external haemorrhoids if you actually meant the ones which "come out" after bowel movements, etc, as you said they were incredibly painful and I was just trying to help you with them, as I have an instant, totally effective and totally painless method I use which stops all pain immediately which I was going to tell you about if you had those type of haemorrhoids, but you did not reply to my post, so i am assuming you are completely cured now?
Hi Poppyseed8
Sorry you are going through this. I have bad haemorrhoids as well. And I also have IBS which changes from constipation to diarrhoea in the same day and usually during the same bowel movement.
You are not alone, but I’m sorry I don’t have any answers.
Thanks for the reply you sound like your ibs is the same as mine do you use fybogel or how do you manage on a daily basis to have some kind of normality in your life
Hi, thank you for your message. I have tried various medications, but nothing seems to work for me. When I started with it badly about 20 years ago, it was only diarrhoea and I found that Imodium syrup worked for me. The GP had to prescribe it as I found I couldn’t take the higher dose in the tablets.
However, now I would not like to try Imodium again because of the constipation.
I am fortunate because I get most of my IBS in the morning and as the day progresses I often feel alright. I am now getting some IBS in the afternoon, but if I am busy outside, I can cope with it.
I have just started to try amitriptyline, but I am not sure it would be good for you. It is giving me constipation and I don’t know whether I can eat more fibre to counteract that yet, as normally I cannot eat any fibre and it gives me a lot of pain. Amitriptyline, maybe helping with the pain, but I am not sure yet.
