mri for the bowel

Hi Has anyone had a MRI of they bowel done? I am bit worried that I might need one as last colonoscopy they couldn’t get very far and said it’s too dangerous to try again due to being extremely long and floppy as specialist said never seen anything like it before. They run out of tube only third way up. I was wondering do you still have to take the clearing out medicine and can I be sedated as had mri years ago on my wrist and I couldn’t take the claustrophobic machine. Managed in the end but it’s haunted me for ever I think. Thanks for any information.

I've not had one but know ppl who have and when it's a bowel mri, your head is out of the end of the machine so shouldn't be claustrophobic. I would have thought they'd do a ct pneumocolon? 🤔 But yes you need a clear bowel for both

They'll probably be doing a CT colonoscopy rather than an MRI. You only go part way into the CT machine. You need a clear out for it, but the substance isn't as harsh as the one for full colonoscopy. When I said to the nurse that I didn't think that I'd cleared out fully, she said that it was OK.

I can't remember exactly, but it couldn't have been too long. They scan you when you are on your back, then you turn over and they scan you when you are on front.

Hello Nerissa.I like you have problems with camera and bowels due to twisted bowel .and end up having a MRI scan .there's nothing to worry about you feel nothing . And they found thinks wrong with me that didn't show with camara.

Just because camera failed to work once doesn't

Mean it won't work in future .

I regularly have camera sometimes it works sometimes it don't.

Best about MRI scan is it shows other organs besides bowels .mine picked up problem with kidney which was sorted out if not found could have been serious .

So stop worring and look forward to getting tested and sorted

All the best for tests and your future

Hi I recently had a colonoscopy and the scanner is so advanced now that it didn’t take any time.

They were unable to complete my colonoscopy due to diverticulitis etc. I had a ct virtual colonoscopy and, a year later another. Its fine as the scanner is not claustrophobic like mri ones. You still have to clear out but the stuff isn't as harsh as for camera
