Saw bowel consultant last Friday, after 6 months on low fodmap diet, taking buscopan and lansoprazole regularly..still in pain, bloating, slight improvement on IBS d since removing wheat, but still suffer periodically from awful pain (like childbirth) and can only relieve it with oramorph (not really safe as have 3 young children at home)..so his theory now is that I may have adhesions in my small bowel and im to have an MRI, im dreading this as suffer with claustrophobia, but I guess its one step closer to finding out what may be causing this pain..maybe..

Have you tried the SCD diet? It eliminates a few more things than fodmaps, like grains and all sugars and sweeteners.
I found fodmaps great but still had issues with sugar and just got a positive on fructose hydrogen breath test ( had to persuade and push for this test).
Worth looking at these things in yr diet.
Good luck
Hi, I have been told that my problems could be due to adhesions !! However, I have had a CT and an MRI, although it shows no problems my consultant said that these tests do not show adhesions any way. There are no tests to show if you have adhesions !! He said that if you had a particularly big area of adhesion it might show a swollen intestine but apart from that it is not possible to see adhesions on any scans including MRIs. AS for the MRI, I too am claustrophobic but to be honest it wasnt that bad. Your head is almost at the end of the tunnel so you are not in the dark. I would go for it anyway as although not helpful with adhesions it can show up any other problems that might be giving you your pains.
I had an MRI for IBS related lower back pain. It came back with 'Satisfactory' that was it.
You should seriously consider whether you need to be on lansoprazole. If you have genuinely have high stomach acid, then you might need it, but the symptoms of low stomach acid are the same as those of high... and if you have low acid, then lansoprazole will not be helpful in the long run and may even be contributing to the problem.

If you decide to stop taking it, then don't quit cold turkey, as I have heard that can cause a rebound reaction and create genuinely high acidity. It needs to be weaned gradually and other things can be used to ease any reflux symptoms.
I hope the MRI goes smoothly. I'm due to have one next month.
I found physical therapy for ab pain very helpful. Part of it was breaking up the tissue under the skin (the word escapes me right now) which forms adhesions. I was painfree for a month.
