ongoing bowel issues, so worried, any advice?

Hi,

I’m looking for advice please, for a long time now I have been going to the toilet multiple times a day, sometimes up to 7, it’s usually soft and easy to pass.

Over the last 2-3 months this has changed to either really soft, or hard and unable to go. Even when it’s soft it’s difficult to get out almost like the muscles aren’t working. I’m really sore at a certain point in my bum where the poo comes out. I also have lower right side abdo pain. The worst part thought is the back ache, it’s near coccyx and if I tense muscles or have a poo the pain gets worse. I find it difficult to sit for long periods of time. The symptoms are constant with no signs of improvement. I also have constant pressure in rectum and sometimes I feel so swollen wind isn’t easy to pass. I also have some upper abdo bloating.

GP has given rectal exam but couldn’t suggest anything other than upping fibre which isn’t helping and using anusol which isn’t helping.

My upper abdo consultant is arranging for a BAM test and colonoscopy. I’ve had a FIT which was normal and colonoscopy in 2021 with showed L&R side diverticula disease.

Can anyone offer advice/suggestions or similar stories as I’m freaking out there’s something seriously wrong. 😭🤯

Thanks

I am thinking you may be backed up. You can get what is called overflow diarrhoea. You might like to take a look at the attached link to see if it sounds similar to what you are experiencing.

hi, I basically have to go to the toilet quite a lot, jus y’day I was 4 times before 11am, it’s been different this past few days as I’ve been getting pangs in my stomach before having to go and it’s draining. I get lower right back pain which I believe is due to the amount of times I’m having to go, my stool is very soft and end up bleeding an all in all most of the time painful, my annul muscles go into spasm when passing a lot and afterwards I end up leaking mucus which is unpleasant. I’ve had this for a lot of years now but of late has been draining an pretty unbearable, I’m waiting to go for another endoscopy but losing faith it’ll give any conclusive answer. Tried so many things to help, some do for a short while then revert but the period I’m in the now I just canny control.

Hope you get some sort of answer

Sorry for your struggles. It could be a number of things. Inflammation in your body. A bacteria in gut. Certain medications you have been taking over the years. Certain foods you are eating. Have you had any kind of infection in the past? Or other medical problems? I would take a look at everything you consume each day and keep a diary . Try going on a strict diet. It will take several weeks to months for your gut to start healing . Cut out all junk , sugar from diet and eat fruit and vegetables and lean meats . Try cutting out dairy for a while . Start there because 99% of gut issues is what we eat and drink. I pray you start feeling better.

I echo countrysider's comments, the main thing is to try and stay calm, which is easier said than done I know. It may well be that the diverticula problem identified in 2021 has worsened so a further colonoscopy might confirm that. Good luck.
