Hi all

So as you know I have the colonoscopy on Friday (panicking) hopefully with sedation. Just had letter through for MRI for the Sunday, now surely my bowels will be all over the place still? Will I have recovered? Even more worried. Now ,

Once the bowel prep has done it's job, NOTHING comes out for days ! That is completely normal, it takes three/four days to fill the bowel up again. As for the Colonoscoy, you can insist on sedation, I have had four now and I can honestly say I remember zero about any of them. The MRI is a walk in the park. I wish you luck.

I'm the biggest worry wart anybody could ever know but I had to have a colonoscopy done the prep drinking that nasty tasting stuff is the worst part when they put you down for Sedation it's the best nap you'll ever have in your life you wake up just fine you're fine the next day after that no problems wasn't near as bad as what I had imagined so don't let your imagination get away with you

Good luck on Friday - everything will still be in place for the MRI !!

You shouldn't worry too much as this will make you BP shoot up and you know this is the way to a diagnosis

I had a colonoscopy done Friday just gone, I'm only 17 and I was panicking really bad all week but honestly it's really nothing to worry about once you have sedation you won't feel a thing! Good luck!

Colonoscopy is worrying the first time but sedation will make it much better. Do tell the nurses of your worries and they will reassure - they have seen it all before !

My top tips (I've had loads of them ) are

1) have a spoonful of something that tastes nice to swallow after the yukky laxative drinks.

2) follow the introductions fully and drink lots and lots of water

3) use a barrier cream like sudocrem (basically a nappy cream) around your bottom to stop it getting sore - you will pop a lot once the laxatives take effect.

4) plan a nice treat meal for the evening after your procedure - something to reward you and to look forward to.

As one other poster says MRI is a doddle after that - my hint for that is to close eyes before they slide you in and visualise that you are on a sunny warm beach, with the sun beating down, warm sea lapping away nearby, cocktail waiting on the bar when you are ready. They play music as well so ask for something that will help to take you somewhere else (I had 80s hits last time - wham and club Tropicana !!!!!)

It will all be behind you soon ( no pun intended!!)
