Hi all,

Hope all is well,

I have been suffering from constipation for a couple of weeks; I take Laxido one sachet every morning, but it does not help at all now, I also have IBS and a balanced diet, any suggestions for anything I can do to help?

Take care

Many thanks

One problem people face is that by taking something-ie Laxigel, sennacot, or anything else which 'helps' it means the motility of your gut is not needing to work as it should moving things along because the laxative has made the waste wetter and more runny! So, then if you don't have the laxative, or suitable fibrous foods, the gut does not work as well as it should! Water is one of the most important things, as the insoluble fibre absorbs it to make the waste more bulky and soft so the motility of the gut is maintained. I didn't know about kiwi, though, so that's something I've learnt today! This topic is a learning curve for us all!

Try water first thing on an empty stomach.

Good luck.

I am fructose intolerant; fruit and fruit juices, teas, cause constipation. Test this out for yourself by avoiding all fruit for a day or two and then adding it back in. If you are fructose intolerant, it will be obvious to you.

I take laxido but I take one at night and one after my break fastin the morning . I’ve been on it awhile . Plus I eat kiwi . Sometimes it works well other times not so much . But you could try milk of magnesia at night time . It works for some people . Hope you get some help with it ,😀

Thank you for your reply; I think I will try taking Laxido at night instead of morning and see how that goes and kiwi too. In regards to, milk of magnesia, how often do you take it?

Thnk you soo much, take care.

start off low dose milk of magnesia at night about 10 mills . But I would try laxido at night first since dr suggested it . Plenty water and see how you go . Everyone is different. So always speak to dr if you can .

Try to increase the dose and drink plenty of water, warm water and exercise. If it does not help, try Tripala plus, its magical.

I have tried everything. Some things help slightly. I have tried Triphala in the past, but maybe I didn’t take enough. Is it the Pukka Triphala plus that you take? I will give it another try. Has this made a big difference for you?

I agree with the others regarding water intake. Personally, I find it has to be at least 3 litres a day, or the laxido doesn't really work and I feel very ill. Increasing the dose of laxido would not be a good idea unless you really drink a lot of water.

I was on Laxido for a while- then it started making me ill. Really bad pain and diarrhoea. So I’m taking nothing now- apart from very occasional fibogel. I’m gluten sensitive so very wary of taking stuff anyway. Yes I’m extremely constipated, yes I’m trying to up my intake of water but I will be following this thread for any good ideas. Hope you get some answers.

With flaxseed you should be careful of overdose...otherwise your breast will be pumped up

It might be worth discussing any changes in your usual symptoms with your GP.

What is your fibre intake like? To improve constipation in the short term you can try ground flaxseed on your breakfast, starting at 1 teaspoon and increasing at 1 teaspoon every 2-3 days - you'll need to consume extra water with it.

These foods are also high fibre:

8-9 Prunes

2 tablespoon chia seeds (soaked for 10-15 mins in milk or non dairy milk with cereal or water)

Shredded wheat (or if GF: Nutribrex)

60g Quinoa

Wholewheat bread

75g Whole grain pastas (if GF: Buckwheat)

2 Hard pears

5 Dried apricots

90g Raspberries

1 orange (contain a natural laxative)

2 kiwi.

I find that I need to have 1 orange a day and then another high fibre fruit later in the day to help with BMs.

I also take 30 drops of ginger extract before bedtime to aid motility. You may need to work up the dose to say 7 drop increments each night.

Optifibre may help if all else fails, though you need to work up the dose as per instructions.

Exercise can help with BMs. The government recommends 150 mins of moderate exercise (e.g. walking as if you are late for an appointment) or 75 of intense exercise (e.g. jogging) per week. I also have a bit of a walk around straight after breakfast to get things moving.

You need to ensure that you are drinking enough fluids (2 litres of fluid per day).

I found that my constipation was related to “tightness” of the pelvic floor where it never relaxed. Look up exercises for constipation and pelvic floor dysfunction

hi I have had the same issues with IBS and constipation and have just been prescribed Fibregel sachets from my GP - I’m coaliac so don’t get enough fibre naturally I doubt and these are gluten free - I have been taking one after breakfast and one after evening meal for four days so far and have noticed a definite improvement! I have also started with Colofac tablets three times a day for the spasms and feel like these are getting slightly less painful - I wonder how other people have found such treatments for IBS? The consultant I’m under for my stomach pain thought I had autoimmune pancreatitis and I am on a 6 week course of steroids for this but now I’m wondering if it was IBS all along - I get flashes of pain under my ribs and my upper abdomen is in a hard painful tight spasm most of the day - I am finding that walking is helping and also sleeping on my left side or back - it’s worse when I lay on my right side - thought I’d put it all out there incase anyone has any advice or shared experiences! Thank you!

try Yakult that really helps me - I take one a day. It’s a probiotic drink - you may be able to take 2 a day but one helps hopefully.

Also are you eating enough fibre ? Fruit and veg ?

Fibogel is also very good and recommended by doctors it’s from natural plant fibre. You can get it from the chemist but if you need it every day you may be able to get it on prescription I am not sure now what is best but you could try some from any good pharmacy,

It works with the natural action of the bowel to help the peristaltic movements - the muscle movements in the bowel that help food move along.

kiwi everyday and take at least two laxido at a time I also take psyllium husk tablets two a day these help I’m constipated constantly and have ibs

try movicol or magrocolol? I take two sachets and they work well.

Also dates are great the Medjool ones seem to be the biggest and if you take two they are good at moving things….

You can take upto 3 maybe 4 Sachets of the laxido. Just try spreading the dosage out through out the day. Drink plenty of water as this will soften the stools.Try and keep an eye on what you eat that you may think is causing more of the constipation. You can also try eating a certain amount of fruit that will help,But obviously not Bananas because they do block you up abit.Grapes, Strawberries things like that can help. But drinking water through the day And spreading out the laxido And especially one before bedtime.
