Constipation

HiHave been constipated slightly the last couple days due to painkillers because of a migraine I had.

Anyway, needed the toilet this morning, couldn't go properly, sat there waiting because I knew I needed to go, then the pains came, omg, so with each pain I did some, then, the pains got worse, I started to sweat, it was literally dripping off me, which is scary as I don't normally sweat, then I felt like I was about to pass out, so shouted my OH, and put myself on the floor, after a few minutes, needed to get back on the toilet and passed more, more pains, then stared to feel better. Still a bit shaky now but omg, I don't know what's happened. Can anyone shed any light onto what's happened please?

Hi, it's all to do with the vagus nerve, see link below:

Thank you very much for that Maureen.Does sound like I've had an episode like that with the nerve.

Still getting odd cramps but only passing water now.

I'll keep sipping water, but no food today I'm too scared to eat anything.

Hi Bluestones1, I have been googling since your post earlier and came across this to prevent vasovagal syncope. I have been looking for an answer for years. I don't know if it will work but thought I would send it to you anyway. I will give it a try next time I get into this awful situation again myself.

Thank you maureen. Just read it.

Sounds easy to do, and I will try it next time, if there is a next time.🙀 Let's hope none of us have to tho.🤞

It's truly awful, who knew going to the toilet could be so dangerous. Lol thanx again for taking the trouble. X

Hi, These painkillers wouldn't have codine in them would they? Codine as I call it blocks you up. Makes it harder to go to the toilet at times. You can try Laxido if you feel your too constipated. That's the impression I'm getting it's due to the medication if it has codine in them.

Hi.Yep, they did. Won't be taking them again I can tell you . Thanx for replying.

I had one awful episode trying to go that scared the life out of me. I found a glass of coconut water every day, kiwi and sweet potato make a world of difference.

HiEver since the awful episode of nearly passing out yesterday, now I've had to keep rushing to the loo, passing only a watery pink tinged stuff. Managed to sleep all night, but after getting up this morning had to go about 6 times. Think it's settling down tho, no more pink tinge, and think I'm holding off longer and longer each time. Havnt eaten anything yet, a bit scared to tbh.

So hopefully it's the start of getting better.

Hope your feeling better.x

thank you and hope all goes well i got a doctors appt last time had cream for piles so can be often for me constipation caused the piles. best wishes.

I have had episodes like this, although quite rarely. I would keep my eye on the situation, and if it starts to happen frequently, then please seek medical advice.

I was thinking an attack of diverticulitis might be a possibility. Little worried about the blood in your stool. Definitely call your doc.

HiThanx for the reply.

The bloods stopped now, and I'm not running to the loo all time.

I'll wait and see if anymore shows up.

I've just sent off a bowel cancer test that I received last week, so hopefully that'll show anything bad lurking.

It sounds like you were suffering from OIC - opiod induced constipation. This may have been the case if you had taken an opiod based pain med like codiene etc. I had this happen once... in fact many do and mostly over the counter laxatives don't help as the mechanics of the problem are different. There's a class of drugs called PAMORA's and if it happens again or gets serious, mention this to your doctor as a PAMORA can offset the OIC without affecting the benefit of the pain medication. If you end up having to strain with OIC you can cause yourself to get a haemmorhoid or an anal fissure, i've had both and you really want to avoid those.

Hi.Yes with the awful straining I was doing I was extremely worried about those things happening to me. That's good information and I will look into that so thanx very much.

I had bloods done yesterday and expecting the results tomorrow or Thursday, he's tested for a whole bunch of stuff.

I will post about results if I need any advice from you lovely people.
