Hi hopefully someone give me some advice or reassurance. I’ve suffered with IBS for along time, several years ago I developed acid reflux, had an Endoscopy which confirmed some scarring, given medication which in most has helped. Fast forward 8/9 weeks ago I developed a barking cough for about 16/18 days. Since I have had a dry tickle in the throat cough (6 weeks) Saw my doctor on Monday who checked my lungs which sound clear, he’s given my antibiotics/steroids and an inhaler. He’s always sending me for a chest scan but warned that may be about 20weeks. I get the impression he thinks it’s my acid reflux. I need to mention I haven’t had an attack in awhile. Any ideas? Thanks for reading and any advice would be very welcome.

Acid feflux causes an awful cough for me, your symptoms sound like acid reflux to me, but I have no medical training so its just my opinion from personal experience.
Have you tried acid reflux medication it may be worth a try. Best wishes.
I find that Acid reflux is down to what we eat in the day. I too have had acid reflux but what I have done is created a food diary that stops me from having the repeat performance of it.I was given medication also i think it was Omperzole. That works, But there's other ones that you can buy over the counter. Perhaps keeping an eye on what you eat and drink may reduce the problem. I know how you feel though because when you have it you just don't feel like eating or drinking anything.
You might have post nasal drip, this can be very irritating and cause the type of coughing you described - I'd check with your doctor and see if you need some type of nasal spray or antihistamine.
Hi angelwings52, thanks for your reply. Silly question but wouldn’t I have noticed something related to this condition? Worth a mention next time I see my Dr, which unfortunately won’t be until sometime in the new year. Thanks again.
Definitely not a silly question! I had similar symptoms and after trying several cough medicines I saw my GP, who explained that you don't always have other symptoms, just an almost constant irritation that causes the coughing. I was given a mild steroid nasal spray and the coughing cleared up in a few days.
Thanks angelwings52, at this stage anything is worth a try, as I previously mentioned my Dr is sending me for a Xray, but that won't be for about another 19 weeks. My see i f I can get an appointment next week, as I finish my antibiotics today and haven't helped. Thanks again.
