I had bladder pain and frequency and went to a specialist as my GP did not want to prescribe more antibiotics and the labtest showed no infection. (I had had some a month or so before).
In less than 10 minutes the specialist decided I had a persistent infection but also thought an alternative to antibiotics was better in the long run. So he suggested I take Urofem tablets, $31 for a month's supply. (A natural sugar called D-Mannosè which line the bladder). I wondered how this would combine with low fodmap requirements but it doesn't seem to have affected my stomach or digestion. After a month it seems to have worked .....along with increasing my fluids ....I am not always good at getting enough water/ non caffeinated teas etc. Advice is to pee when you need to, dont hang on, I was peeing 4 times a night sometimes.
I have not managed just 1 pee a night very often , mainly twice but definitely better sleep. I just take 1 tablet a day for maintenance now, plus Ovestin vaginal cream sometimes.
Specialist did say if you have a sensitive stomach and bowels you are more than likely to have a sensitive bladder, but I tend to think its lack of fluid , stopped using the cream as I hadnt had an infection since 2015 , plus age, I am 72.
I felt a little peeved about how much it cost as I wasnt prepared to wait for public. There are alternative medications if this doesnt work - one is subsidised - low dose antibiotics for 3 months can be used too but not the best solution. Good luck to all.
