I.B.S AND THE PROBLEMS.

I.B.S. destroys your life in so much as the simple things like a walk, drive in the car, going out socially, yoga-you name it, is a real problem. Wearing special disposable pants, incontinence type disposable sheets underneath the main sheet and how do you regulate say imodium and peppermint oil capsules as either you get painful stomach cramps and a bloating sensation but it protects you if you go out or it does not work and then you are in trouble. In addition I also suffer from what is called ani-puritus, I think that is called. So if you go to the toilet frequently it sets in play the soft skin around the anus and causes itching and bleeding later and even if you do not visit the toilet it can still happen..There is a ointment called Xyloproct which contains Lignocaine and that does soothe the problem. It is a steroid ointment which if you read the instructions should only be used for a short time as steroid can thin the skin but I have been on it for 7 years at least but the doctors at the surgery are happy to continue to prescribe it. So what is one to do.?. I feel as if I am a prisoner in my home without bars.

I can relate although I have the opposite problem with IBS-C. But it has destroyed any quality of life I have. I have to "make excuses" or sadly lie to my boyfriend why I can't do anything on weekends..and I am too embarrassed to tell him I have suffered from chronic and severe constipation and I have to take a boatload of laxatives and strong coffee just so I can go. With that I have the cramping and sometimes neausea. I now have debilitating shoulder strain and pinched nerves that I have to see a specialist for..and I am still not feeling better. I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone. Right now as every Sunday I am waiting for the Senna to take effect and hoping I can still "go" after all the pain medication I took this week. I used to have the opposite IBS and I understand about the fecal incontinence, not being able to sleep on my sheets..having to wear uncomfortable pads etc. I'm wondering..I do remember that I used to take prescribed Levsin or Bentyl for cramping, anal spasming, etc. They worked wonders..
