long time sufferer of i.b.s.

I have had I.b.s. for a long time and several years ago came across this site help for ibs. which had a book of recipes for people with this health problem, The foods worked for a long time and then things changed and they didnt help me as much esp. the rice cereal I always have in the morning like porridge,

Now my system is so used to it that i cant do without it. I have tried a few times and my stomach hurts so bad when it gets empty,

I dont get my nutrients well and for years have not been able to get that good satisfied feeling after a meal.

I feel like I am stuck in this situatuon,

What's the website/diet you've been following?

If you're struggling with your diet and what you can and can't eat, I'd really recommend speaking to a registered dietician.

The website was helpfor i.b.s. The dietitians are too expensive and I dont have a way to get to them.

Well that is one of the more reputable IBS websites. As Blue52 mentioned, sometimes when you adjust your diet your body adapts to it, and then you have to readapt again when you change diets. I imagine it takes different lengths of time for different people, but it's also the same for 'healthy' people, too.

On dieticians, I would add two things: if you're in the UK, dieticians are available on the NHS (they're not all trained on the low FODMAP diet but that isn't your problem at the moment). But secondly I'd add that they may be expensive, but you probably don't need that many sessions. I know for me I only needed two sessions with mine, and some will offer discounts for those on limited incomes. Maybe that will make them seem a little more affordable.

I dont have access to a car to be able to get to a dietitian. I had hoped that my doctor would be able to help me but he is not trained in nutrition only is doling out meds.

Some dieticians do telephone or Skype consultations and I can't imagine a hospital in the UK that doesn't have an inexpensive bus service to it. And I wouldn't trust a doctor with anything but the most basic healthy eating advice; some of them are woefully outdated on what the correct dietary for advice for IBS is, so for someone with needs that sound as complex as yours I would definitely recommend a dietician.

Hi, have suffered the dreaded D for years, although you found the right thing for you at the time, perlonged periods of the same diet, will inevitably changed, your body gets use to the same thing, then triggers set off, and this is me. You have to start the whole dreaded cycle again and find what's right for you. I wish you all the luck with this and hope you find another diet suitable for you soon. Take care.

I have found that eating foods on the fodmap plan is starting to help me. It's only been 4 days now but I can feel a difference in a positive way. It's very restrictive but it's worth it to me. Onion and garlic are known triggers. Google fodmap and read about it. It could really help you too.

Also peppermint oil pills are helping me ... IBGard is the brand I take 30 min before eating and it's providing relief along with eating the fodmap way.
