Hi all. So every time I go 2 the toilet my muscle contract and make it difficult to go. It’s like squeezing toothpaste out of the tube effect and sometime it just blocks me from goin altogether. I can be on the throne for an hour a time. Just wanted to know who else has this problem? and what solutions have worked for them?

Toilet problems
You must try not to strain as this will make matters worse. It is the hardest thing in the world to relax when you are tense and the more stressed you are the more tense you will be.
I should try drinking more water and eating more soluble fibre. I wouldn't try to force the issue just wait .
Thanks for the advice I try not 2 but if i need to be somewhere or if i got plans it can be embarrassing, inconvenient and a pain in the ass. no pun intended. Was just hoping someone had a suggestion that I haven’t tried yet.
Maybe you don't actually need to have a bowel movement at the time. Can you leave the toilet and come back later when you have a more urgent feeling?
the problem is I know I need to go but I just can’t. If I leave the toilet and come back I get bad gas which is embarrassing.
Maybe the feeling you have is gas rather than actually needing a bowel movement. I know gas is embarrassing. There is just not much that can be done about that, except to find a bit of privacy. Forestina is right. Straining is not good and can cause more problems.
Hi, you may have a pelvic floor dysfunction, or a weak sphincter muscle. Making defececation difficult. Many people say "don't strain" but what do you do, if you cant get the stool out, and stool softeners, fiber, more water, exercise, etc, does not work. I think a colon and rectal specialist can do an exam of the sphincter muscle.I may have to have surgery on mine. Because fiber has been forced on me over the years by Doctors, it has caused large internal hemmorrhoids, Because fiber just bulks up stools making your anal canal with a very little opening have to work harder to expel the bulk causing internal hemmorrhoids, and the anal canal to get smaller causing painful contractions. I would get a digital exam done on your anus and rectum to rule out internal hemorrhoids as they can make defecation more difficult and cause straining, narrow stools, and other problems.
My GP prescribed fiber gel amongs other things and none it works. Haven’t been for a good while maybe I’m due a check up. Thanks for the comment
I would suggest try daily tap water enemas i was doing that for 10 years and still i can deficate on my own i mean buy enema OTC fleet or even tube amd then every morning when you have difficulty emptying or straining just insert the enema and pull the water in you will be relieved in seconds , other than that try glyc supposority but it is not effective like the enema.
Heard about glys suppositories do they have a long term effect or can they be used on a regular basis. Don’t want to make things worse because I can go just takes me ages.
Personally, I have not had much luck with fleet enemas or suppositories. The suppositories just burn when they go in. They will dissolve, burn..I wait and wait, but they are not strong enough. Nothing comes out, except for some yelowish liquid. I do know I am doing it right. I have tried them all, but if you have severe constipation, they only get the lower rectum and not the colon where most of the fecal matter is. Just not strong enough, but then again, everyone is different. I Even had a hospital insert one for me, after much protest because they did not want to do an enema (not a good ER department) after I told them it did not work, and sure enough, the nurses just sat there, and said "oh..strongest one we have, not working". Same with fleet enema, just not enough liquid in the small bottle, and it can be a little messy. I lie on my left side, right knee bent up, fully insert, lay on my bed on a cotton pad, but most of water or solution leaks out of rectum..again I wait..and have no urge to go. If I feel somewhat of an urge, it's just that I need to get the solution out, and no fecal matter comes out, except for a few flakes. Best best is to buy the ones the hospital uses. A soap sid liter enema. Where a large bag is used. It can be a little "messy". But you can hang it up. You sort of have to lay on bathroom floor, or some people will just sit on toilet and put the tube up, which I don't think works as well as laying on your side. Then wait 5-7 minutes until you feel you have the urge to go, and you will have 2-3 very good evacuations. Unlike those small bottles over the counter. A few times, I have been so constipated, have had to go to ER, and they will give you an enema. Takes about 10 minutes. You will feel so much better and have a better sense of well-being.
Thanks el will bear that in mind. I appreciate u taking the time
Sounds similar to me. I can only go if I take a laxative. At the moment that is Dulcolax until I see my GP again. Take it at night and don't leave the house until it works in the morning as you have no control once you need to go. I don't think it would be good if you had to leave home quick on a morning but it works for me and stops me spending the day trying to force myself to go.
Good 2 know but wouldn’t be practical for me as I’m up early for work Monday 2 Friday. Appreciate the reply though 👍
