I tried Buscopan a few years back. I only used it the once as my fingertips went numb and it put me off. However, it did seem to settle my tummy within 15 mins or so.
I am having such a gurgling and growling digestive system and nothing like low fodmap, peppermint or simethicone seem to ease it.
I thought that I should give Buscopan another go (just hope I don’t get the numb fingertips again!) and wonder if anyone has used it to settle their gurgling guts?

Hi there, I have been having similar and like you usual meds aren't working. I have never tried Buscopan so might give it a go. Sorry I can't be more help, hope you get respite soon.
I am on 80 mg off buscopan and mebrvine a day and I feel that it helps me I still get cramping but it more tolerable . ..
Are you sure it was the buscopan that made your fingers numbs .. I am sure there is different types off meds out there that can help like I said I am also om mebevrine aswell it's an anti spasm medication maybe you coukd ask your doc about it if your having bad cramping x
Yeah that's it I would maybe try with one or even if unsure speak to your doc they would be better to assess you don't want you taken some sort of reaction either x
Hi Rusty Dog, I occasionally take Buscopan if I have uncomfortable gas and it does seem to help. However, I also have Reynaud's phenomenon, which shuts down circulation in my fingers if I am in a draught or my hands get cold. Could this be a coincidence?
I have Raynauds too. I didn’t link it tbh. It was a different kind of feeling to my normal Raynauds feeling though, unlike the awful painful cold numb I get with that this was completely tingly/numb like I’ve had with migraine. I suppose I will never know unless I take the Buscopan again lol!
I hadn't made a connection either, but I will watch out for it now. I know what you mean, I get tingly numbness with migraine too. The only way to know is to try it again. Overall, I find Buscopan helpful on occasion when I have discomfort.
I have similar gurgles, waiting for endoscopy. I worked out the gurgles are trapped wind that won’t go anywhere so I tried Wind Settlers pills and they work a treat. I take one or two after each meal and so far it seems to have calmed things down a lot!
Hi. This is now the only medicine I take now. To be effective if you have grumbly annoying tummy take 2 at least twice a day. Our hospitals now use it for short term gas and wind, for in patients. It's also used in CT colonoscopy, as a I Introvenus shot into a arm catheter, to relax the muscles within the gut. One pill on its own probably wont be enough, I have had not any side effects in 10 years of taking them. I don't use peppermint as its strong and in cases such as me with a Hiatus Hernia would cause nasty gastric reflux. Hope that helps👍🇬🇧
Thank you, the hospital did offer it to me in an iv when I had my colonoscopy but I declined it as I was concerned about side effects. I will definitely try some though, thanks.
Hi, like any medicine, some don't agree. I can't Ibropufen, take a look at some sites 5hat maybe tell you of any side effects, especially if you have other conditions, buts its normally quite safe or use of it in hospital settings wouldn't be routine. Overdose is only thing to be worried about really. Good luck😊
Best thing to do.is move around, long walk or yoga/ plates, up and down stairs, cycling indoors or out, plus massage the abdomen. Drink lots of fluid. Windsettlers, windeze, de-gas and others contain simethicine which so far for me doesn't work but I am trialling how to take it. 1 after lunch and 1 before bed sort of works....but mainly I think the food that started it all off (broad beans) has been expelled.
I wish I could walk around to exersise more, I believe my constant wind is caused by having to sit most of the day, as have one hip waiting for a new one, now 2 years away because of covid, and the other spreading causing me painful sciatic nerve pain. Most sites on IBS and other things, keep saying more exersise, but forget millions of people especially in winter with mobility problems, seem to be targeted at normal people who can walk off weight and wind after dinners. Quite frusting for us disabled people🙄🙄
I take a multi digestive enzyme plus senocalm but senocalm is simethicone & you say it doesn't work for you but it works better for me than buscopan - were funny things aren't we?? Hope you get sorted soon. ☺️
Sometimes Senocalm helps other times it doesn’t sadly. Do you feel the digestive enzymes help? I’ve tried them once but maybe need to give them longer?
Sorry for my delayed reply - yes digestive enzymes really work for me. I stopped taking them for a week just to make sure I did require them & was soon back to bloating & feeling sick when I ate!! 😀
