HELP! IBS flare up! Does Buscopan work?
Wow really, that's scary!!! I'm very sensitive to medication anyway so maybe I shouldn't take them!!! I don't know what to do!
I was taking mebeverine 3 x daily for 6 years and ppi's this year as started with acid reflux. Was eventually referred to a consultant as lost so much weight, had no appetite etc. After endoscopy (all clear thankfully), met with consultant who said I should only have been taking mebeverine when I had an ibs flare up (6 years I'd been taking them religiously and not once was I told otherwise by my GP) and that these could have caused my acid reflux! Consultant took bloods and stool sample, said he would see me after Xmas and referred me to see a dietician about low FODMAP. He also advised me to stop taking mebeverine and wean myself off ppi's. I have now been 3 weeks without any medication and things were going quite well until Sunday when I started to get the symptoms mentioned! I chased my referral and follow up appointment yesterday only to be told there were no appointments for me on the system, to say I was shocked and disappointed was an understatement! I've left a message for the consultants secretary (when I eventually tracked her down). I don't know what to do in the meantime for the pain of cramping and the feeling of nausea!!!! Should I try mebeverine again and see if clears the symptoms? Anybody?????
Hi , I hope you find some relieve , I take buscopan for my ibs symptoms , i feel it helps with the cramping pains I get, but yes it is probably a short term solution. I keep getting flare up every couple of weeks, which is frustrating but I'm due to see a gastrologist on the 10th Feb, so will see what he says etc.
I hope you get some help Katie.
I thought I was finally in good hands and was getting somewhere. The co sultans really seemed to listen and be 'on it' to now find out 3 weeks after meeting him that there is no follow up appointment booked or nutritionist appointment booked is so upsetting and quite honestly chasing things and pushing to be heard is the last thing I feel like doing right now. I don't know where to turn!!! Thank goodness for this site! X
I take buscopan atm, just started. I was on it when I first had symptoms around age 17, but it didn't help. Also tried all the other usual things like mebeverine. Since then I have been diagnosed with Endometriosis.
I'm not sure if endo or IBS cause my issues (no luck finding triggers) but I was told to try mebevrine again, and it didn't help. So now I am trying buscopan again instead.
Someone in my group did mention she is on both and that seemed to make a difference. It's nice to know that's always an option worth discussing with the GP
Pandora where can I get food intolerance testing done for £50? I spoke to my gp today who said if the consultant said not to take anything I shouldnt! That's easy for him to say, I'm the one in pain!!! I'm so sad and confused!!!
High or low stomach acid ??? Could you explain please
Buscopan increased pain for me then left me washed out
Use colpermin regularly, you could try a little olive oil before eating
Wind comes from air swallowing from stress try whiskey in hot water or colic medicine to relieve subsequent pain
Buscopan works well for me when I have a really painful flare up. It's been used for the past 50 years.
Binks, how long does it take to get your symptoms under control? Do you take it 3 times/day or just when you eat?
Please go onto my posts shon48 and you will hopefully get the relief you need . It has been a miracle for me.
