Hi guys,

Asking for some advice! I have had an official diagnosis of IBS as well as tests comepleted for celiac - we’ve come to the conclusion of non celiac gluten sensitivity!

Anyway. I’ve been having trouble with my bowls and I have clearly done something to upset it, I do get really bad anxiety when it comes to going out place etc so maybe that is what caused my ibs episode. I keep going to the toilet (loose stools) and I’ve come to the point now whenever I do have the urge to go only mucus is present rather than stools.

Tomorrow I’m travelling for 2 hours in the car and extremely worried about these constant loose stool episodes - does anyone have any advice? I am considering on taking Imodium to at least get my rhythm back and perhaps give me a break. It does say on the pack to take two tablets to start treatment… and the side effects are most likely to be feeling of sickness which I’m already experiencing due to anxiety…

Hi Emjay, I find Loperamide is useful for these situations, and usually start with one the night before and another the morning of travel. I find taking two together is too much as it can cause cramps. Once underway, my anxiety goes because I have something else to think about.

Saw on tv the Ondansetron is a miracle cure for IBS. I'm asking for some next week.

Let us know how you get on with this please. Are you in the UK?

Yes, I saw it on a tv programme "stop your IBS" it looked brilliant. I'll try and get a phone consult with a gp this week.

Yes, I watched the programme and when she described what happened to her, I said to my husband "exactly the same as me!" I have had various GPs over the years as I used to live in Kent and moved to Surrey/Hampshire border when I met my husband. But I have never heard of this drug before. It's a lottery with the NHS isn't it. It just depends if you find a good doctor and there doesn't seem to be many of them around! What's the betting they say it's only for people with cancer!

They did say it's a cheap drug so there shouldn't be a problem. I've had IBS for 40 years. I looked it up on Google. It is prescribed for travel sickness. Cross fingers😊

Yes, definitely tell me how you get on, I have had IBS for 35 years and I'm getting a bit fed-up with it now to say the least. 🙂

It's a bit late but ask you doctor for Ondansetron. It will stop the travel sickness and will stop the IBS as well. It's a miracle cure for it.

Hi Emjay24, I've had IBS for almost 30 years. I've had exactly the same issues you've been experiencing with mucus. I'm amazed at all the help people have got since I joined Healthunlocked as I just get nothing and have had to research. After experiencing these mucus issues for months I noticed my IBS pains became worse. I was told that it looked like I had Diverticulitis and would end up with a Colostomy bag.

Have you been using Dioralyte? IBS depletes your body of essential salts. When you have diarrhea those salts need replacing every time your stools are loose, not daily, every occasion. I was terrible at ensuring I did this and it just caused more problems due to my bad management of my condition. When I did manage it properly I felt really good after the bout of diarrhea ended.

I then began getting acute pains after eating things I've never had issues with. Quite quickly I found I was allergic to Sulphate Dioxide which is used as a preservative in dried fruits, etc. Then the fruits and vegetables I had a reaction to were high is sulphate naturally. This made me suspicious so I began a log of what I could and couldn't eat. After a few weeks I discovered that the majority of foods I had a reaction to contained gluten. The pain was so acute I'd called an ambulance twice, only to be told it was my heart. I'm no medical practitioner but I know there's a big difference to the location of my tummy and heart 😡

Within 2 days my IBS symptoms completely disappeared. I can feel the mild signal that I need the loo now. No more pain, doubling over, forcing my fists in my stomach, stifling my scream, using copious amounts of loo roll, having to wear nappies, being absolutely wiped out after using the loo, never ending excuses for not going out. I feel so good as I knew I couldn't carry on like that for much longer because it took over my life completely.

The gluten-free diet is expensive and no store has all you need so I will be doing a lot if cooking from scratch from tomorrow. Hope this all helps 😍

Hi Evonnne, may I ask how you got tested for Diverticulitis as well as have an understanding as to how you found out you were allergic to Sulphate Dioxide? I’m really struggling with my health to the point I can’t go out of the house because the doctors refused to prescribe me anything they tell me to wait it out and stop being anxious!
