IBS, IBD or Celiac's? Can't decide.

My Gastroenterologist told me its IBS but i also have illness anxiety disorder so im pretty sure bunch of you know how that works.

My current symptoms are

Lower abdomen pain comes and goes on the right and left side. The pain is more like an ache which is discomforting. It do occur on upper abdomen sometimes but mostly its lower right and left.

Someday stool is solid and someday its like small pieces broken down. rarely completely liquid.

Today while taking dump, first half of the stool was big and float down while the second half of the stool was small and floating. Always see bubbles coming out in them.

Sometimes if i get crazy abdomen pain I see lots of mucus in the stool the next day.

I did get an endoscopy done last year for gerd and it was all good so im assuming if it was celiac the doctor wouldve seen it? because he did take biospy from stomach and duodenum.

Assuming that your gastroenterologist did all the proper tests, you need to go along with the IBS diagnosis. Normally they rule out coeliac disease and IBD first prior to being able to diagnose IBS. Pain, mucus in stools, floating stools (due to a lot of gases) are all common signs of IBS.

There are treatments available for your symptoms which your GP should be able to help you with via a phone consultation. There are nerve pain agents to stop the pain or antispasmodics if you are also experiencing diarrhea or loose stools. Since you have access to the internet you could get yourself acquainted with fodmaps if not done so already. They are carbohydrates found in some fruits and vegetables - there may be specific ones that are causing you problems. You eliminate all fodmaps for 2 weeks which should help to alleviate symptoms and then introduce them in small amounts one by one for 3 days and then wait up to 4 days for symptoms. I am currently taking Alflorex probiotic which has been scientifically studied and found to help people with IBS. This is available on a free 2 month trial on joining theibsnetwork.org.

If you go to:

theibsnetwork.org/

you will see a banner advert at the top of the web page and a 'Learn More' button. You'd need a year's subscription to theibsnetwork.org, so you'd need to join that first. I paid £24 from memory. This means that you will get all the benefits of joining including getting free advice from specialists such as gastroenterlogists, plus loads of hints, tips and recipes. Effectively you'll be paying £12 per month for Alflorex for the 2 months of the trial. One month is normally £24.99, but they have better deals if you buy 3 months at a time after you have conducted the trial. They call you after a month to find out how you are getting on with it and then issue the second month if you are getting benefit. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work for males as well as females, but you could always post a question to Precision Biotics the manufacturer via their email address: ask@precisionbiotics.com.
