Arish 23 , I am having excessive gas problem, with some occasional bloating as well. For the acid reflex, I have been taking gastro-resistant Lansoprazole and omeprazole for last almost 30 years. Is my excessive gas is related to the medicine or food. All my food intolerance and stool tests are negative. This gas is affecting my life and I have tried all the over counter remedies. Please any suggestions or remedies

Yes that’s my problem. It does change your life. I can’t do exercise in a group or yoga. The embarrassment is real !Like you I suffer from reflux taking esomeprazole. I’m pretty sure that’s the culprit but without it my hiatus hernia gives me shocking pain

I’m taking pro biotics which I don’t think are helping. Next try will be charcoal tablets

You could try windeze which help a bit

Good luck Tal

Excess gas can be due to food intolerances. The excess gas that builds up in the system can weaken the valve that sits between your stomach and your throat allowing acid to flow back causing reflux. Food intolerances can be caused by a gut bacterial imbalance, whereby bad bugs have the upper hand over good causing these symptoms. You can try a probiotic such as Alflorex to see if this is the problem and bring things back in balance. I have tried many probiotics and Alflorex worked the best for me. It has also been clinically studied for IBS. If that doesn't work you could try the FODMAP elimination and reintroduction diet via GP referral to a dietitian. If you have had a food intolerance test (rather than elimination diet), unfortunately these are not accurate:bda.uk.com/resourceDetail/p...

The only way to know is through a elimination & reintroduction diet.

Hi xjrs,

Can I ask, how long should someone need to take the Alflorex for, before assuming it wasn’t working and giving up on it to try something different?

Hi Julieleesley68,

Good question.

I would say at least 2 months but preferably 3. The best people to ask really are the manufacturer Precision Biotics. You can email them using ask@precisionbiotics.com. They have a good support team. You are allowed to buy as a one off their 3 month trial pack which is only a couple of £ more expensive than their 2 months pack:

Thank you. I will email them & consider the trial pack, that seems worth a try
