I’ve been taking amitryptaline (10mg) for about 4 weeks, to try and tame my long time IBS-D. So far, it’s not working too well. Causing constipation, excessive gas, bloating and then every few days I will have to go to the toilet urgently all day…
Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, is it worth sticking with it to see improved results?

You should definitely tell your doctor, or who prescribed it. Maybe a lower dose is needed? I don't know. I have never taken it. It's best to speak to them first before trying a lower dose, because I don't know enough about it.
Amitryptaline has been a wonder drug for me. I think it would probably be worthwhile persevering for a few more weeks. I’ve been taking 10mg for around 10 months and I have had no episodes of IBS-D since. I’d had a few years of really debilitating episodes and suffered complete fatigue. The only initial side effect was feeling a bit groggy in the morning, but that has since passed. May not be for everyone but it’s certainly worth a try. Hope you find something that works for you.
I really am hoping this will be the thing that gets it’s under control. It definitely has improved how often I have a proper attack of it, but I still can’t say a real reduction in symptoms. I’ll give it another week or so at this dose, and see where we get to.
I have been taking Amitriptylene for 4 years and it has certainly calmed my stomach down. When I first took it , the tabs did make me constipated and a dry mouth but side effects wore off after a few months.
I am on 3-4 a night … best thing I have tried …I stay away from fibre and try to eat small meals every day brother than load my stomach … buscopan is great ..take two 20 minutes before food …
It’s definitely having an effect but not to the level I was dreaming of 😂 my doc told me to feel feee to increase up to 30mg, I’m reluctant as I’m so tired as it is in the mornings, but I think I will give 20 a go
