Fecal impaction after hysterectomy?

Fecal impaction after hysterectomy. I’m in 3 phosphate enemas a day and ten senna tablets a day. Morphine for pain. Had moviprep and no benefit seen. Waiting for mri scan results. Not sure if nerves have been impacted by the surgery. It’s been six weeks now and quite exhausted.

I also had a hysterectomy. I was advised to take 1-2 colace every day and do light walking. You might also want to talk to your surgeon or a gastroenterologist.

Thankyou. I am walking as much as I can and yoga exercises for constipation. It’s the pain. Seeing a gastroenterologist at present he is great we just have not found s cause yet. Worry is that when unblocked will the bowel return to normal or continue not working as little movement feeling etc..

Hi! I believe morphine can contribute to constipation/impaction. Maybe check with your GP for alternative pain relief?

Thanks for your reply much appreciated. Morphine low 5ml dose as I am not able to take tramadol or codeine. There are really no other options. I have lidocaine patches too.

Why do you still have pain after 6 weeks. That does not sound right. Maybe discuss with your doctor. Morphine can cause major constipation.

Hi - Its the only med I can take. the gynae consultant has checked all surgery site and said all ok. It is the bowel pain I think I am feeling as the hysterectomy has gone plain sailing apart from this fecal impaction. The gastro is going to check the MRI tomorrow and advise. GP has indicated hospital admission is next step if pain not subsiding. I am reluctant due to Covid risks and I hate hospitals too believe or not :-)
