fecal incontinence..
Yes, it has happened to me on a few occasions. I have learnt now to take Imodium if I am going out for the day. Also been practising sphincter excerises that have given me precious minutes to get to a loo
I get leakage but not out of my anus its like my internal sphincter muscle has given up
I have had a few accidents myself but they haven't bothered me recently thank goodness as the source of what was causing them has been resolved mainly stress from a toxic job and it has taken me a good few months to get over it.
Thing is accidents aren't the end of the world!
I agree with you but in my case every time I go to the loo I can't fully empty my bowels I haven't got the muscles to push it all out I'm not over weight an I'm relatively fit
It, has ,in fact, happened to me as well. Luckily I I suffer mostly from constipation. It may happen again next bout of diarrhea. Scares me!
I'm scared to go to the loo every time because I can't control my bowels.. is it wired that most night I dream about it to its like PTSD
This life is so uncomfortable. The last time I went to the ER and they said everything is normal, I broke down in tears. He apologized that the doctors have no idea how to help us. I have nightmares at night only to awaken almost paralyzed by pain. It takes at least six hrs before I care to even speak. I am sorry for you that you are part of our community. It is difficult to even leave home comfortably. I have decided that all I can do is endure and add to the community of stories for doctors to consider. I pray you will find help and be able to add to some stories of success!
Hiya, I have that problem. Mine is connected with a weakened internal anal sphincter due to an underlying medical condition (CREST Scleroderma) but there are many possible causes. I spoke to several gps, my rheumatologist and gastroenterologist about it with no explanation. It wasn’t until I saw a proctologist and had some anal pressure testing done that I finally understood what was happening. This is a really common problem. I have now had a sacral nerve stimulator implanted and am waiting to see if this will help me. It does help most people apparently.
Good luck.
Jen
Thank you for your reply I have had so many tests done an all come back negative witch is really annoying the doctor's keep saying it's all in my head I've done CBT it didn't work and I'm on medication for ibs and mental health for some reason the doctor's just won't listen to me when I tell them what is wrong with me how long did you have to wait for your surgery
It is a nightmare. I had loads of tests. My muscles are weak. So I do have leakage and feel very embarrassed. Consultant said take two Imodium a day but makes me constipated. I take one Imodium a day but if it leaks take another Imodium and one at night then usually ok for a few days. Just had gastroscope and colonoscopy. They found a polyp, barratts and hiatus hernia. So no real answer.
I take 6 Imodium every day but I still get diarrhea I have never said this before but every time I go to the loo and I think I'm finished I put a finger up my bottom an I can fill poo I carry a caprisun you know the one you get from a shop the pouch bottle I fold it up an keep it in my wallet an I have to fill it up with water an squirt it in to my bottom to clean the inside of my bum because I can't fully empty my bowels.. so yes I'm scared every time I go to the loo I don't know how long I'm going to be in there obviously I can't work I don't go out much I have been doing this for about 10 years now I can't keep living like this..
I gave up work it was impossible. Do you think diet makes any difference. I’ve given up working it out. It’s fine if at home I can shower but not so good if you need to go out.
I have changed my diet but it hasn't helped I've lost 15 years of my life to this I've missed family weddings funerals family holidays holidays with friends I'm living with parents because of ibs I feel embarrassed all the time if I am with people an someone says what's that smell even if it isn't me I have to leave out of fear an embarrassment just in case it is me
Not good and no one really helps. My doctor gets cross. I have a colorectal nurse now as I have anaemia so hope she helps. I’ve done exercises with a physio waste of time.
My GP keeps saying it's all in my head an my ibs is related to stress.. if I didn't have ibs I wouldn't be stressed it's a vicious circle
My Dr says it is all in my head, but she means it is all in our nervous systems so it is to some degree correct. She says it with sympathy. I suffer from bipolar, fibromyalgia, inability to sleep without meds, and IBS. I pray for some medicinal emphasis on this problem for all of us!
Im taking medication for Bile Salt Malabsorption but I haven't been diagnosed with Bile Salt Malabsorption the medication is not helping
Mentally how did you cope?
Hello.
I did suffer from this embarrassing condition for years,it got to a point where I had to do something about it.
I was referred by my doctor to hospital, where pressure tests were done etc. I was told that I had this type of incontinence, and was prescribed, Bisacodyl which is a great help with me emptying my bowel totally, the only drawback is that sometimes these tablets give you severe cramps, apart from that, Job Done!!!
That's good that you have found something that helps you i know what it's like it must be like a god send Evan if you have to suffer pain sometimes I've just spoke to my doctor demanding I see a specialist he said that he will sort it out
No sciatica an yes I've seen a doctor I have had so many tests done but all come back negative witch is so frustrating this might sound weird but I wish they could find something wrong with me so it can be fixed

You don't need to go through your GP for this:
If you'd prefer not to see a GP, you may be able to make an appointment at an NHS continence service instead. Call your local hospital for details of your nearest service.
I am in the UK thank you so much for your advice and information I will definitely look into this further
