Bleeding from bottom

My daughter has had every test imaginable- cameras down her throat, up her bottom - blood test everything and still can’t find out why she bleeds from her bottom. Could this be diet related? Last night another huge bleed with tummy ache. She’s 27 - I’m so worried

This is similar to me but I have microcscopic colitis (diagnosed via biopsyn during a colonoscopy- I'm 21 so similar age) but according to my gastro this particular kind of colitis shouldn't cause bleeding so I was still stumped. I've noticed it happens the week before my period starts so we are starting to look at explanations more to do with gyno than gastro such as endometriosis. I think depending on the amount, the colour and when it happens should narrow it down some but I've been fobbed off for years about it. The only thing I could think of as diet being the factor is if she suffers extreme constipation or upset stomach because that could cause very light bleeding just because of the uncomfortable BMS x

Hi there - i would defo try to rule out endrometriosis as i am not sure if cameras would pick up external adhesions on bowels. The extent of my endo was only picked up when i had an op with scans just picking up one big cyst. Good luck

You could be describing my daughter too. She's 22. 3 years of bleeding, vomiting, weight loss, aneamia, every camera in every orifice. Poor girl. Turns out it is endometriosis. Try to get a gynecologist's referral.

Does your daughter suffer from constipation or does she have normal bowel movements?

Yes - She’s not losing weight the opposite though !

Sorry. Are you saying that she is constipated?

Also exercise can help with BMs. The government recommends 150 mins of moderate exercise (e.g. walking as if you are late for an appointment) or 75 of intense exercise (e.g. jogging) per week. I also have a bit of a walk around straight after breakfast to get things moving.

She needs to ensure that she is drinking enough fluids (2 litres of fluid per day).

Have you tried any dietary measures to improve her constipation? Bleeding can be caused by a highly irritated intestinal track from severe constipation or from fissures etc. There is some advice here:

theibsnetwork.org/constipat...

Initially it is often recommended to try ground flaxseed to try to bulk out stools. Starting at 1 teaspoon per day for 3 days and increment by another teaspoon every 3 days until there is a satisfactory response. If having trouble with all of this you could ask to be referred to a dietician.

Other dietary measures include:

Breakfast:

oatbran

all bran

prunes

2 tablespoon chia seeds (soaked in water)

shredded wheat (or GF version: Nutribrex)

Other meals:

quinoa

wholewheat bread

whole grain pastas

High fibre fruit snacks (2 per day spread out):

hard pears

dried apricots

raspberries

oranges (contain a natural laxative)

2 kiwi

Hemorrhoids or the mega spore biotics? the hemorrhoids are caused from straining to much or going to much it is swollen spots at the opening of the bum hole where the poop comes out and when they are inflamed they hurt and bleed. The mega spore biotics help put back all the enzymes etc that the gut needs to function right it has done wonders for my system. Has it working more normal.

I had similar experience with bleeding - in my case it was because I was straining so hard to pass a BM and my colonoscopy showed I had healing ulcers in my colon. I was given macrogol to, as my gastroenterologist said, 'reset' my colon. I also gained weight as opposed to losing it which ruled out my problem as being IBD.

I would suggest keeping a food diary to get a better understanding of what is triggering the episodes of stomach pain, bloating and BMs. Make sure you note down what foods cause your daughter pain and what triggers bleeding. Also keep note of how much water she's drinking and her caffeine intake.

Through a food diary I realized what foods my body couldn't tolerate - pasta, cereals and bread were things that triggered vomiting in me as well as bleeding so I removed them from my diet and added them back in slowly to get my body used to tolerating them.

Others have mentioned that it could be a gyno problem so make sure that you see a doctor about ruling that out.
