Hi everyone. I have had I.b.s. for about 40years. Hasn’t been an easy ride but have soldiered on! Was diagnosed with diverticula disease 2 years ago after one of my lovely colonoscopies. It flared up about 2 weeks ago. Went to the doctors on Monday and he put me on metronidazole and amoxicillin and I swear these antibiotics are killing me! Bowel pain has gone and is now replaced with stomach pain! All I can taste is antibiotics! So tempted to stop them!
Words of encouragement from anyone who has been here would be appreciated.

I have IBS and I have had 2 separate diverticulitis attacks. Don't stop the antibiotics, diverticulitis can come back. You need to finish the pills. The side effects for me on cipro and flagyl are more diarrhea, nausea, headache, tired and the bad taste in mouth. Take some probiotics.
That's exactly how I feel! Good to know it's normal. Am taking probiotics for antibiotics from optibac. Thank you for your kind reply - it's made me feel a bit better.
I am currently being tested for diverticular disease- had lower left abdominal pain for some weeks now- seems to be worse at night. Im just waiting on CT scan results. Can I ask what your symptoms are when you have a flare up?
Small pieces of poop for a few days, several times a day then heavy feeling above pubic bone, increased urination frequency, dull pain lower left abdomen them diharea, gas, bloating.
Hi. During the flare up I had increased abdominal pain on the left hand side. I was nauseous, running a temperature and had frequent diarrhea with bloating. Don’t know why this happened. Have had diverticula disease for a number of years with ibs type symptoms - just one of those things I guess.
While I am on them antibiotics nearly always make me worse and give me stomach/bowel pain (which i don't normally have) but then when i stop and give my system a rest for a few weeks with simple diet etc I feel so much better!
Hi liz. Thank you for your reply. Am on antibiotics until Monday. Have had 2 days of fluid only and am now on a restricted diet. Feel better knowing other people have had the same symptoms whilst on antibiotics. Good to know you felt better after a few weeks - gives me hope!
I also have had IBS for over 40 years and was taken into hospital 3 weeks ago I was taken into hospital with diverticulitis, I was kept in for 4 days and still feel very tender but much better than when I went in, it is very important to take all the antibiotics.
Hi. I’m soldiering on with the antibiotics. Have 2 days left. Am pleased you have said you still feel tender after 3 weeks because even tho I feel a lot better my bowel still feels sore and I didn’t know if that was right. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
