Diverticulitis

I have recently been diagnosed for diverticulitis. I hope I am OK writing on this group though I know it is IBS. I had a colonoscopy which luckily was was ‘excellently clear’ surgeon’s words, had some polyps and biopsies. Also diverticulitis diagnosed. My problem has always been difficulty in passing stools, sort of constipation. It has been worse since the colonoscopy. So I have tried laxitives. The doc has prescribed Movicol. It has not agreed with me. I only took one sachet on Thursday evening. Friday I tried prune juice ( recommended by someone here) and had porridge with fruit. OMG since then I have had a stomach ache and going to the loo multiple times, not diarrhoea as such but still uncomfortable. Back on soup and white bread. Has anyone else suffered with this. I know how many of you suffer much worse, but just wondered the best way to deal with it. Sorry this is such a long post. My diet is normally very plain but high fibre.

Hi! Dockgirl Sorry to hear you are no better from your post of 11 days ago. I have just spotted something in your post that we should get right diverticul(itis)=inflammation of the diverticula sacs, therefore you usually have a course of anti-biotics. Having the sacs and no symptoms = diverticulosis, hope my spelling is correct. When I have a mild flare up I eat a bland diet so as not to overwork the gut especially where the sacs are. Then when is clears up back to fibre in the diet for me. NHS website also has info on diverticula disease. Hope this helps🤞

Thank you Linley. Yes I got it wrong, looking at the report from the hospital I have diverticulosis. So I am wondering why the constipation then diarrhoea. Though it could be the anxiety I suffer with . Though it definitely was something to do with prune juice for me. Thanks again for your advice.

Hi Risita, I luckily don’t like popcorn lol. Not sure where you are from but we are not referred to a gastroenterologist. At least I haven’t been. We have a GP. So no at the moment no antibiotics. Speaking to my GP by phone Thursday. Hoping to get more info re diverticulosis.
