I’ve suffered with ibs since I was 11 and am now 74. Even if the diarrhoea isn’t there I have tummy pain every day. I don’t ever remember a day without pain. Is this normal with ibs

Ibs pain
It's ok you'll get through it
Hi I have ibs since I was 38 years old and I am now 78 and I am the same as you it is not nice but it is nice to no I am not alone I take pain killers and a hot water bottle it seems to help me hope it will you
I first had stomach problems at 6, was diagnosed with IBS at about 35 and am now 75. I don't get IBSD much now but more cramp and wind. I have found probiotics have helped, and I take Colpermin when it gets too bad.
Finding the best probiotic for you can take time, but I finally settled on Sogar multi d. Continual stomach pain suggests that you may be eating something that your gut is not happy with, so gradual changes to your diet may help. I assume you have tried a food diary, FODMAP diet etc etc.
Hi Squidge - I was 70 when I had a gift of a food intolerance test, through a local pharmacy chain with branches up and own the country -uk. It has changed my life - I found to my horror I had multi grain intolerances, dairy egg and banana. I removed all the potential intolerances and have not looked back since. I also have type 2 diabetes, and have managed to go drug free by keeping my sugar levels, which can be increased even with grains such as wheat, rice barley, rye and maize which are put in foods, such as malt in malt vinegar - malt drinks- from barley grain mayonnaise . Maize is put into foods as corn syrup which is sugar - this is also in diabetic foods labelled as sorbitol - sugar free.
It was a wonderful present and know it might help people like myself who have lived with the discomfort and time wasting, difficulty with travel, or going on outings.
Hi Squidge. I know just what you mean . I’ve had IBS since my 20s and I am now 79. Not constipation or diarrhoea anymore but constant stomach and back ache. Hardly a day without it. I take painkillers and try to keep going but it’s not easy. I’ve just had non hodgkin lymphoma cancer and had radiotherapy and chemo so I am thinking it’s set my IBS off with a vengeance. Hoping it improves soon. Best wishes to all xx
Hi there, I sympathize with you and all fellow IBS sufferers. It tends to dominate your life but I try to stay positive. My advice is fresh air, exercise if you can, time with family and friends and light easily digested meals(low fodmap if possible). I find my hotwater bottle is my best pal and buscopan for cramps. I wish you well and hang in there. 😊
