IBS pain!!

Hi,

I Just wanted to see if I could get any advice/reassurance!

I've been diagnosed with IBS and the pain over the past couple of days has been severe!

That bad to the point where I'm keeling over trying to comfort the pains.

It feels as though I'm so bloated and my stomach is about to explode. I've never given birth but my god these pains are what I imagined it to be like!!

I suffer with both IBS (going to the toilet too much & not going at all!!)

I've been prescribed mabeverine 135mg which I have started taking today.. So far they haven't kicked in yet as I'm only on the first day, I just wanted to see if anyone else has been diagnosed and if they work/when will they work..

I'm also taking colpermin, peppermint tablets.. has anybody been successful with these?

Any advice/info would be amazing!

Mebeverine is good if you have overactive bowels but a mild ' natural' laxative like Fybogel is good when you're bunged up. IBS pain can definitely be as bad as (or worse than) childbirth!!

Thank you! I was beginning to panic thinking the pain was too painful to be IBS!!

I feel your pain! I have been put on Mebeverine since Monday so only 4 days in, I have noticed a small difference but nothing significant just yet, not sure how long they take to fully work and I guess everyone is different. I also find colpermin can help and buscopan but sometimes they only just about take the edge off the pain. I also think if thats what childbirth pain is like, I think at least I'll be able to cope if the time comes!!! I suffer with mild IBSD rather than C but can get times when I alternate, although not often. Peppermint tea and a hot water bottle at night can help :) xx

I've got colpermin I think I'll try buscopan soon. Hopefully the mebeverine will start to work soon! Last night I thought I was gonna have to go to the hospital I can't believe how much pain this can cause!

I've been glued to my hot water bottle all week and peppermint tea I've been drinking but I'm gonna make sure I drink lots of it today!

Thanks for your reply. I feel a little more at ease now.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Xx

Do go to the doctor if you don't feel better soon and ask for a referral to a hospital doctor or dietician. Good luck and try to relax !

Hi

Does Buscopan help.

Also is your diet healthy and do you eat a lot of bread

Gassy drinks high fat foods n whole meal can cause bloated pain

I avoid sultanas shrimps fruit peeling as all give me ibs

Don't miss meals and try to eat slowly

Walking and windeze help me with this.

It’s the such a terrible pain. I’d never experienced anything like it. Can’t sit, or lie down just constantly pacing doubled up , gripping my stomach in between the trips to the bathroom 😩 I’ve used mebeverine and it did help me for a while then I changed to Buscopan. I also take Omeprazole. When you’re recovering I’d recommend trying to do things you enjoy to get back to normal to take your mind off your stomach... as the pain and bloatedness can last a while, until your system gets back to normal. If you haven’t already I’d recommend looking at the FODMap diet sheets to start working out what foods are good and bad for you. Good luck with the mebeverine.
