Hip thigh pains

Have had ibs for many years. Recently had sigmoidoscopy which turned Into a colonoscopy without sedation which was agony as he had to untwist the lower sigmoid. Since then apart from more ibs pains I have pains left hip, and down outer thigh. Can ibs refer there and has anyone had hip and thigh pains. Just had pelvis and hip x ray all clear. Feels connected to my lower left ibs Pains. Can ibs cause hip and thigh pains

Yes! I get the pains there a lot. I’ve read a lot about a connection between ibs flareups and the psoas muscle and hip flexors. Your bowels sit directly on them in spots and when they play up, the tension can travel down those muscles and flexors. Try some hip flexor stretches and psoas massage. I’m actually convinced there’s a strong connection between the gut, pelvic floor, hip flexors, psoas, and lower back.

Really Interested in your theory. It makes sense. Everything I read though says bowels cannot refer to leg. I feel it can

I feel it definitely can too! I think the aggravated bowel, aggravates that muscle, which runs from your lower back, all the way to your hip and upper thigh.

I have those pains also but never knew it was connected to IBS. I have read about flexor muscles but never heard of connection. Thanks for info

Am following your post because I have had hip and leg pain (right hand side) for years, which I thought was the sciatic nerve trapped. Nothing much has helped. It is worse when walking though. I also have a crooked spine (scoliosis) and did wonder whether that cramps the bowels as it is not in its straight position, or vice versa, bowels press on a nerve or something? You may have hit on something with your thoughts....

You will not believe this... I too have scoliosis! Pretty severe case. I definitely feel like there is a connection. I have hip pain at times, lower right abdomen pain at times, and general aches and pains. Mine is also mostly on the right side. And I definitely have gut issues.

It's odd because most people with IBS mention their pain in lower left abdomen - I've always felt it more, and get more gurgles, especially before an 'episode', on the right hand side, like yourself. I wonder if the scoliosis is the common factor in this? I have read that a twisted spine can affect your internal organs, so why not the bowel?

bourne62: I cannot believe this doctor made you suffer through that procedure without medication!!!! That is horribly cruel and very, very needless. So sorry to hear this!

Hi, I get what I feel is referred pain all over my body. I can't think what else it can be. It seems to me that wherever the poo is inside me it pushes on nerves (probably the vegas nerve) and travels along it and gives me pain elsewhere which is sometimes worse than the pain in my bowel.

I get little pinprick sensations throughout my torso when I am due an episode of IBS diarrhoea. I can't say they cause great pain but they are definitely an indicator of something soon to happen.

Have those pains in right hip. Never knew of connection to IBS but I suppose anything is possible. Hope you feel better

Yes I have them mos5 of the time when I have a flare up if IBS I find heat bags help and pain killers Gail
